The concert was evening I ticketed with OS Arun waiting next for evening II , this had to be unfortunately boxed. What I liked the most in the concert is the no of numbers was minimal and what I did not like that much is overall little higher volume of Violin volume -that bit overshot the other three on the stage.
Start was nice and this reetigowlai has a lot of rhythmic intensity and both the percussionist grabbed to exhibit more patterns. Does SSI Or MMI sing this Cheraravademira ,in the recordings I heard TRS and ALB. This is a brilliant reetigowlai number . The rare GKB krithi natamAdum nAdhan was well done especially the neraval and very focused pointed swaras.
I was surprised to hear him sing dhanyasi not just the bit detailed alapana but more importantly this rare krithi of paradevata . IIRC few years back i heard this dhanyasi md krithi paradevata with Aishwarya vidhya ragunath and may be many many years ago I think i heard from vijay. Certainly dhanyasi MD and paradevata is a deadly classical composition of high aesthetic merit. A detailed kalyani that opened out with one of the finest krithis - may be after abhayambA of MD I like this needu charana the most especially the neraval line jannai manonmani ... , is quite a choice as it gives right spacing to go with kalyani rasa with attenuation of phrases to give more sahitya bhava.
The shree ranjani kana vendAmO was well done and the madurai somu popularized krithi with a nice viruththam especially the start in kApi was well done. The violinist B Raghavendra Rao has one of the fastest finger and speed in general . I did not like so much speed and brigas in violin return for the dhanyasi which robbed the beauty of dhanyasi . As said before his volume was wrongfully kept high and I could notice a higher shade of aural violin blocks to vocal sangathis . You cannot blame the performing team they told clear cut but the sound man adjusted little in beginning and came back after 1 hour . Balaji and shankar teamed up well and did play well for the songs and the quick rotation for most songs was really nice . Their tani was a standard fare.
This sabha nungambakkam cultural academy (now renamed CCA) is where i have started listening to concerts . I think they can do something more for the sound and speakers ,bit more pointed lighting will also help . Also they ticketing both evening I and evening II slots separately does not help to bring in more rasikas . OS Arun concert was slotted next as a separate ticket concert . This sabha should do a combo evening I and II single ticketing like Music Academy .
Any way dhanyasi - paradevata of his was a top pick(a shade of s kalyanaraman there). Voice throw was always there with suryprakash and did not have season end seasonitis. His trade mark fast filler with long swara patterns was missing (even in non nirvana slot he does)but i did not like that absence .
Overall a very good concert for nearly 2 hours from 04:30 to 06:30pm.

I attended this concert. A very good concert. It was a short one, just two hours. I felt sad that I missed some bigger concert of Suryaprakash. I liked the start with Cheraravademira. Nadamadum Nathan by GKB I have never heard earlier. Welcome change from Ananda natamaduvar thillai. On the whole it should be appreciated that Suryapraksh tends to include songs from the repertoire of other schools - for Paradevatha, Cheraravdemira etc are never sung by his Guru TVS. The alapanas of Dhanyasi and Kalyani were most appealing within the time constraints.
Violin- He had been repeatedly asking to increase the volume to which once Suryaprakash did not agree. Then they raised the volume of Suryapraksh and violin.
Rajesh, How I missed you. Cheraravademira- Hyderabad Brothers and Malladi Brothers sing it very well
