Vijay Siva - Vittal Ramamurthy - Bombay Balaji - Coimbatore Mohanram.
62nd year Sri Thyaga Brahma Gananjali concert at Sri Venugopla Swami Temple, Sullivan road, Coimbatore
26 Jan 2016 6 pm
Slokam
Nadatanumanisam
Inthakannandamemi - neraval swarams
Tera teeyaga radha - ragam
Matladavemi natho - neelambari (ragam, swarams)
Padavini sadbhaktiyu
Adigi sukhamu - ragam, neraval, swarams
Paramathmudu
Koluva mara gadha - tODi
The concert has started with a crisp slokam apt rendition of Nadatanumanisam. The bilahari kriti was ever so refreshing to listen with a nice round of neraval and swarams.
The alapanai of gaulipantu was just too good. Made me sit up and enjoy. Both vocalist and violinist were equally wonderful in their versions of the ragam. As expected, tera teeyaga radha is rendered. A couple of rounds of swarams could have been the feather.
An elaboration of neelambari, that is ever so soothing and pleasing is up next. A very traditional start to the exploration of the ragam. And a very different finish. A similar and yet different approach to the ragam on the violin. More concentrated with phrases in madhya sthayi by both artists. The kriti is a rare number that one has not heard of. It is a very nice song, rendered even better. There are some very intricate swarams and very rarely heard prayogams being used in the swara section, in mel kalam.
Thoroughly enjoying this concert.
After a sweet sketch of the ragam, padavini being rendered. A slightly slow paced start for Madhyamavati. After a leisurely and sedate and classical exploration, the violinist gave a fitting reply. Adigi sukhamu! The Mridangam vidwan is supporting the song so well. He is actually playing the kriti as well. Neraval at neeke daya, in two stages. Swarams in slow and face paces. Ma ri pa ma ni pa, so many combinations and patterns. And a nice build up of swarams and a crisp korvai to finish. Paramathmudu rendered in no hurry.
A majestic start to todi. Most certainly the main course for the evening. Aptly followed on the violin. Phrases racked up one after one. Fast and slow. very touching. Alapanai built elaborately to hand over the baton to the violinist at the thara shadjam. Violin version of the ragam equally touching. Another round of alapanai by both the artists. Koluva mara gadha.
Been so long since one went to a concert and this is turning into a very impressive and much enjoyable concert. One is feeling guilty of typing and updating posts, meddling with a phone. However, if I don't share my joy now, I might not be able to do it. So, let me do it.
Have to leave now, else my train will leave me.

Why the first-person pronoun .. ARRRGGHHHHH. No one uses it, well apart from bala747[?] and Sriram V.rbharath wrote:One is feeling guilty of typing and updating posts, meddling with a phone.
Does it actually mean you are detached from the body and look at yourself from outside? You could have said, rbharath was feeling guilty then
One is not amused by this anochronism

Mahesh, one always used to using the first person pronoun. Not the first instance and neither new here. In fact, one rarely uses the first person "I" in one's posts.
Why shouldn't one be detached from oneself. Wish one could do it all the time.

*I*, Always *I*. As I mentioned, "one" is an anochronism in the English language.

Bharath,
So good to get a review from you after a long pause. One recalls the old days when you wrote them regula...oh, dear! I mean, 'I' recall...
I haven't heard intakkannAnandamEmi in a long while either...
Are you now in Coimbatore now, or were you visiting?

Arasi,
I still live in Chennai. And I do drop into some concerts now and then. Not as much as I used to. And definitely not in the right scheme of things to read, understand, contribute here regularly. I do read them posts at times.
And am visiting Coimbatore for today. It's by chance that my uncle dragged me to this concert.
