A very melodious affair. Bhairavi , nAtakuranji and the rAgamALika in RTP were the highlights of the program.
The team delivered another splendid performance for 3 hours.

I liked Ravikiran's approach to full-throated yet melodious music. Liked the second song in Kannada and Amba Kamakshi. His niraval for Bhairavi was brilliant.

The mridangam was a tad loud. A lot loud sometimes. KVP played very well for the songs, especially the swarajathi.

Very enjoyable evening thanks to SRLKM and the Bajji counter.

Bajji there is made with some strange veg like cucumber,etc., - not the standard banana, or potato.

BTW, Ravikiran is always impressive. Very senior pakka vadhyams.

How was the crowd? Hope not too thin after B. Jayashree.

Just as I can recognise a few ragas, I can also recognise the vegetable in the bajjis sometimes. I have eaten the bajjis made in the Bajji Samaja with
1. Potato
2. Hirekai or ridgegourd
3. Long chillies.

Ridgegourd is the darling of people from this part of India as it is supposed to have lots of health benefits In fact Patanjali Ridgegourd is touted to cure several deadly diseases

In these difficult times when pirated kerosene is used to cook dangerous bajjis on the wayside in rancid oil, the bajjis in Bajji Samaja is pure and can be compared to classical ragas like Kharaharapriya, Bhairavi and Kalyani.


The crowd was NOT bad. In fact it was an excellent concert with excellent audience connect.

KSSR - Being a product of two cultures (karnataka and TN), I can understand you. Bajjis are made with RidgeGourd (Heerekai/Peerkangai), Chayote Squash (Seeme Badnekai/Bangalore Kathrikai) a lot in the old mysore state.... and they are yummy. Of course the others potato, chillis, onion, capscicum, banana are common. The cucumber one is flavor from mangalore.

Where is Bajji Samaja?never heard before?

Bajji Samaja is a crowded corner on the left side open air corridor leading to the artistes' lounge and VIP entrance. There is no board but you will find all like-minded Bajji rasikas there. For a nominal price, you get fresh bajjis and coffee. No onion or garlic used.

Now about the cucumber bajji, I have to confess my ignorance. But re. chow chow (seeme badanekai) I have throughly enjoyed bajjis made with homegrown ones.

Another speciality of the place is a drink called "Kashaayam". I initially thought it was a joke- a critical view of the excellent coffee that is available to rasikas (of both bajare maanasa and bajji ). But this is a unique drink that can keep you awake during the concert ( I guess). Wont be surprised if an Arya Vaidya shala crops up next to the B.Samaja. It can deliver better quality kashaayam and also medicines for troubles caused due to the bajji, bonda, etc.,

Thanks for this humorous term.Without this Samaj,some times Carnatic Music will be without color.I experience this in many venues.Bhajji is a very important component. Sri KSSR may introduce bhajji Samaj at Nadasurabhi!.
In Bangalore Gayana Samaja at Bhajji samaj,one could hear varied comments on the concert as to what item would be presented by Sri T M Krishna.
The concert started with RTP,followed by Saramati elaborately presented more by Sri R K Sriram Kumar and occasionally joined by sri T M Krishna who used to prop Sriram Kumar to play on.

It was shocking to experience Sri TM Krishna's scant respect to the rasikas at large.The music in him may be prepared to dish out any fare,but the rasikas must be willing to receive the same.I heard several murmurs which eventually will lead to sri TMK losing many admirers.No doubt that he is undoubtedly a great musician,scholar and thinker.But having started the concert late there was no apology from him.There were no announcement about the delay by the organisers.
The organisers seem to be of the opinion that any way you are listening to the music free of cost,be prepared to take whatever treatment given.The front rows even if not filled even after half after concert start,seats will not be given to ordinary rasikas.The arrogance on the part of organisers though understandable is very much evident to the public.

Thanks to my new job and lousy commute - have been a no-show for a while. Sachi/Raghavan Sir - when does the concert start? I am planning to come on Friday and Sunday (and Sat hopefully)

5:45 PM. TMK came late and started at 6:15PM.
All good seats are taken by 5:15 or so for more popular artistes.

HNB, try walking to any front seat half way into the concert from the left side. Nobody will stop you I think.
