From what i saw and deduced.. Violinist was overwhelmed with what AR sang and he informed he will play tanam directly..

I was there at the concert... in this case it was an out of the world alapane of tODi and the violinist did not want to take away the shine of the performance.

There was a small chat before he started where it appeared like he indicated he would get into tAnam

How was the combination Chitraveena Vs violin.
My experience in Vani mahAl concert, last december wherein AR was accompanied by Chitra veena and violin, was bad. There was no co-ordination among the artists and it was a sort of night mare (ish) concert for me. After attending MA concert, I attended with lot of expectation.
My thought was- Let AR not bring this sort of innovation in his concert.

This is not the first time AR has left tanam to violinist. Last time at GayanaSamaj in November also AR sang SunadaVinodini + Surutti alapane and left tanam to BU Ganesh Prasad. It is actually a good thing after a elaborate alapana to allow the violinist to respond in a different form.

I thought chitraveena will get a change to play tanam, but was not to be. But overall IMO chitraveena didn't blend with the concert very well.

I agree that tanam on the violin sounds really good, especially in the hands of people like RKSK, BUG, HN Bhaskar, Akkarai, etc. with their strong bowing techniques.

Personally I donot like the aspect of any vocalist outsourcing completely to Violinist - whether the violinist is of high callibre or not is a moot point. Abhishek sings always a longer R in a RTP(his strength with respect to competition is in alapana and many a times gives a brahmippu in alapana rendition) . He needs a voice break to recoup and gives the violinist the turn to take taanam .

Abshishek is many a times RP master with T given to violin. Also he focusses more only on pallavi and he ends curtailing even swaras . For that reason I personally like musicians like sanjay and suryaprakash more for their complete R T P S pallavi .

I personally dont enjoy any vocalist not singing taanam and I have witnessed atleast 4 to 5 live occassions where abhishek let go the Taanam.

Yes, outsourcing is a bad idea. We of course need to take
the entire package as offered by Abhishek to decide our reaction.
