Post#4 is derogatory and worthy to be removed.Moderator may initiate action immediately. Why Carnatic music?Even hindustani musicians travel and perform if invited. This is true of Professionals as well.Look How many professors work full life time?

Music lovers should be proud and amazed how TNKSir still retains the melody and sukham at 88 years!! His playing career spans several generations of musicians--FIRST Ariyakudi-Chembai-Maharajapuram-Chittorr-Musiri,SECOND Semmangudi,GNB-Madurai Mani-Alathur,THIRD KVN,MDR,Ramnad Krishnan,Nedunuri, Flute Mali FOURTH TVRamachandran et al. This amounts to over 75 years of active concerts playing. To retain the sukham after these many years is commendable!! The secret is good foundation by his father--(a strict taskmaster who lived almost 100 years and never failed to "goad" his son into higher excellence),very good moderation in habits,a very pleasing demeanor, never strayed into Music Politics",was friendly and desired by all the vocalists of successive generations!!

WHY AM I WRITING ALL THIS? I TOO WOULD BE OFFENDED BY RUDE REMARKS ABOUT A SENIOR MUSICIAN'S AGE and poster of post#4 needs to be more charitable!!!

I am reminded of the quote of Oliver Goldsmith in Vicar of Wakefield(the opening line):

I HAVE EVER BEEN OF THE FIRM OPINION THAT ANY MAN WHO MARRIED AND BROUGHT UP A LARGE FAMILY DID MORE SERVICE TO HUMANITY THAN HE WHO REMAINED SINGLE AND TALKED OF POPULATION ALONE:

I would paraphrase it as any man who defied his age in the pursuit of Art did more service to Music than he/she(the forumite of post #4) who talked of "AGE" alone!!!!!

Prof. Krishnan is not only a great artist but also a wonderful human being. I had the privilege of having his acquaintance and friendship on several occasions.
Some titbits/quotes from Prof.TNK:
"People ask me why I keep travelling and playing even at this age. My only wish is that, as far as possible, there should not be anyone who would say later that 'I very much wanted to listen to TNK live, but did not get a chance' "

At the end of a wonderful concert, he came down the stage and asked the organisers "Seriyaa irundadaa?" (Was the concert OK?). That is humility.

In the invitation that our organisation had printed for Prof.TNK's concert, we had by mistake printed Padmashri instead of Padmabhushan. I picked him up at the airport and was bringing him to his hotel, when he pointed out the mistake. I, just in order to make it light, said "Sir, very sorry. Maybe next time we will err on the other side by putting Padma vibhushan and thus compensate". He laughed and said, "No. No. Don't do that. Just imagine that in that concert an influential person comes who could recommend me for Padmavibhushan. On seeing your invitation, he may not do it. It is always better to tell the truth." I really learnt an important lesson from this great person.

May he continue to serve the cause of Carnatic music for several decades to come.

Thanks for the post because of which such titbits have surfaced. But for Ravana, Rama might not have been born.
