Thanx for the review. Happy to note that Tamil songs find a palace in the menu. Definitely Karaikudi's Thani must be enjoyable.

For an instrument how does it matter if a tamil song is sung sir. Ofcourse some rasika who knows sabhapathinkku and eppo varuvArO by heart can sing along with the brothers.

Karaikudi Mani hmmm is playing is great . Can some one who attended this concert let me know how is GKM as of now to say 10 or 20 years before?

It was a nice concert from the onset of Abhogi from Nagaraj. It was a noisy affair till then. I wanted to get out when they were playing Pantuvarali..it was pure noise..I think reverb was the culprit as well as things i cant put a finger on.. Thani was nice.

my observation the past few years has been that the brothers, in their instrumental concerts, focus more on volume and an aggressive style.
mysore nagaraj IMO is the more subtler of the two while mysore manjunath tends to focus more on the volume and noise :(
it is a pity - they are fine musicians fundamentally - maybe their "target market" is different.

It is a disturbing trend that quite number of musicians who intially followed a fairly leisurely pace are turning
agressive and noiser by the day. There is a general belief among the artists that audience appreciate fast tempo music, and there no takers for vilambam/saukhyam. Does the blame lie with the rasika's?. Do they prefer thunder storm and lightning to cool breeze? It's true that a chauka kalam a la MDR/Musiri doesn't fit the times we are in, nor has it necessarily to be at jet speed, electrifying experience all the time. I don't wish to go into names in particular,it is well apparent for those who have been listening to them for some time.
It would be in fitness of things if the artists achieve a rational mix instead of making it a"all noisy/speedy affair".

I WAS A GREAT FAN OF THE MYS BROS ABOUT 10 YEARS BEFORE.

IT USED BE THAT SRI NAGARAJ PLAYS LIKE SRI MSG.
WHEN I HAD LISTENED TO SRI MANJUNATH IN 1985 AT HASSAN GANESH FESTIVAL, IT WAS A SHEER JOY TO LISTEN TO HIM PLAYING LIKE
SRI LALGUDI WITH LOT OF VALLINUM AND MELLINAM AND WITH GRACE.

BUT SRI MANJUNATH STARTED PLAYING HARSHLY, THE EFFECT OF GOOD MUSIC WAS LOST.
IN PRESENT TIMES, WITH THE COMBINATION OF PATRI SATISH KUMAR, THE ENTIRE CONCERT HAD BECOME A FULLY A NOISY PERFORMANCE.

I HAD STOPPED ATTENDING THEIR CONCERTS FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS.

A GREAT LOSS TO THE CARNATIC MUSIC NOW.

Dear friends

The Mysore Bros concerts as the popularity increased,so also the sowkyam earlier associated with their concerts are absent now.But the noisiest portion excites the crowd which gives thunderous applause. In fact when they accompany the vocal music, one can see the smooth and silky touch which their bowing can produce.
Nagerswaran's observations about the loss to Carnatic music is correct.
Generally very silent Sri KVN said a few good words about the accompaniment of Sri M Nagaraj way back in 1986 at Malleswaram Sangeetha sabha in Bangalore.Sri M Nagaraj accompanied Sri KVN sir in this concert.

I remember Nagaraj accompanying the likes of Ramani, KVN etc in the late 70s/early 80s - and it used to be just awesome!

Even Karikudi Mani is also equally aggressive in his mridhangam. I understand the decibel and from next time, these concerts should be held in Chepauk or MA Chinnaswamy ground. (What would have happened if it was chamber concert ?..)

What would have happened, if T.Bhaktavatsalam played mridhangam instead of Guru KM ?

Year back, One of the Mysorue Duo played for Sanjay Subramanyam in NGS during Dec season. It was flawless and very well presented.....
