Where is the odakathur mutt ?? Is this concert ticketed or free. What is the seating capacity?

I have heard him once sing narada gana lola - atana krithi with extraordinary swaras . did you miss pointing swaras for ilalO?? OST is brilliant in first few numbers ?

Was there no neraval in the concert , did you miss pointing in main the neraval?

Dear Rajesh
Odakathur Mutt is a land mark by itself in Ulsoor area. But just in case you need more specific directions it is opposite to Thiruvalluvar statue.
All concerts are free. Seating capacity is 400. But in case the hall gets full, people can sit outside (in the temple area) and have a glimpse of the kutcheri through the many window grills.

I have been to a murugan temple in ulsoor some what close to Lido theatre is it the same place . Is the mutt and temple the same?

There were a couple of rounds of Atana swarams. No Neraval for Shankarabharanam. There was a short neraval for Kalyani. Out of the 2 hour.30mins.. 20 mins thani. 10 mins speech. Concert ended at 9. it started around 6.20pm. Felt he could have packed more.

Dear Rajesh. Yes.This temple is quite close to Lido Cinema.
As you mentioned the Mutt and the Murugan temple are located in the same premises.

Yes. Close to the aurobindo ashram. opposite to the lake.

It is a pity that such a great musician gets less crowd.The crowd does not come for such sublime and chaste music.Same is the case perhaps for Sri vijaya Siva.The crowd goes by name-Bombay Jayashree,RaGa sisters,Sanjay.Nothing wrong as it is left to the choice of people,
Irrespective of the crowd,OS Thyagarajan or Vijaya Siva give splendid and sublime concerts.
This is something related to honor conferred by Chennai Music Academy.OS Thyagarajan/Vijaya Siva have not got their due share of awards.They have been bypassed for the coveted title Sangeethakalanidi.

kavalai vEndAm Sir in 5 to 10 years they will both get it . OST for few decades was an accounts officer in shalimar paints and was not active in concert circuit. Vijay is only few years elder to the last year sangeeta kalanidhi. Glad Bangalore has more concerts in March time .

Sri OS Thyagarajan is in concert circuit longer than many Sangeethakalanidis.I remember him singing since 1980's.Even he was featured fairly early and regularly in Music Academy.

OST was partially active and only after him leaving the job at Shalimar paints - he has been participating as fully active in the circuit is what once Late SV Krishnan mama of Ragasudha told in one of the concerts that I attended of his about 12 years back.

On an interesting side note interesting information from my mother that came today .In year 1977 i was in lkg or prekg , my amma's younger sister had her marriage in mayavaram and I was there . I was born in mayavaram and my maternal /paternal roots are from that mayavaram/kumbakonam belt .Interestingly OST has sung in the concert at the reception of my chitti in 1977 . In another family function of ours in 70's lot of family members say that I was also there for a madurai somu concert. My maternal thata (MDR paithiyam)who is no more has told my mother that he has taken me to MDR concert. I wish it is true I can brag that I have heard MDR in my life .

Between three of us MDR , OST and Madurai Somu - my best guess is one will surely get Sangeetha kalanidhi in next 5 to 10 years . I am researching whose concert did I hear for the very first time live in my life.

OST has been delivering chaste music devoid of theatrics and fluff for 40+ years now (a darn sight longer than certain recent SK awardees) and training scores of aspiring musicians during this time. Music Academy will only be raising their own credibility by honoring this living maestro.
