Throw some pointers why it was ok concert.
Assuming the neraval line was jAtarupa which came thru their guru Neyyantikara Mohan Chandran from kerala to the brothers.

With miLagAi in the pallavi (chilli- per the report), I thought it should have been a kAra sAramAna (hot and spicy) concert!

Corrected the chilli, to make it less spicy.

At this very young age, they keep looking at the books to render many krithis, from the start.
Only one was rendering the krithi most of the times, and other was silent many times, not much synchronisation.
Not looked great on execution.

They did do elaborate neraval at jAtarupa

Having followed their concerts for quite some years, your observation seems surprising to me.

C Rama-
What is surprising ? Is it that they never referred the book during the concert ? or the overall concert of theirs ?

Youngsters referring book is nothing "against" now a days. Even Ashwath Narayan referred book (sheets) during his ""Oothukkadu special concert in PS High school, few months back.

Somehow, their long neraval, or same rAgam exchange - do not go well with my sort of interest.

Nageswaran sir uses the word while giving comment on MMI concert- "azhagu miLirum". Very hard to give exact english word that suits the CM. That is always missing in their concert.

GRS,
It is atleast 24 months since i heard this duo. I think the surprise to crama was when raman says there is not much synchronization(I am assuming rama has no opinion on referring books).

To me they sing very long swara cycles(comparing with rest of competition) and usually there is no silence in their rendition - at times for many rasikas it becomes a NO NO , for rasika like me it is okay as long as musician delivers long cycles of swaras and neraval.

To be explicit, my surprise was at two comments. One, there was no coordination. Two, one person was singing and the other remainng silent for most of the time. I have never observed such things in their concerts. Hence my post. Referring note books and all, now it has become common. That is a different subject which we have discussed many times. Rajesh, Long final neraval/swaras - it was spread by TMK, IIRC and all other young musicians have followed aiming at thunderous applause. and I do not have any complaint with that.

It is not TMK who bought that - it was bought as early by Semmangudi/GNB/MMI and championed by half an generation by many many musicians and the lovely saga continues . Let us not misrepresent that this young kid TMK bought and the relatively younger kids like trichur brothers are following it.

The kambodhi RTP seems to be the main item of the concert. I am unable to identify the sub main.

Rajesh, The pattern of our music is that the final neraval or swaram will be long- which was done by SSI et al as you have told. But it was TMK who created a euphoria like atmosphere in concerts with his highest energy neravals or warams which brought thunderous applause. Now I see all young vidwans adopt this formula and I do not have any complaint about this.

Sivaramakrishnan, You can spot Ardhanareeswaram or Devadeva kalayamide as sub main- if you are so particular.

Why varnam has two ragas? The all time popular RSI varnam is in Mohanam alone.
Wonder what they did here?

In case of duo singing if you have observed among Hyderabad Bros also only one brother sings most of the time occasionally joined by the other. As long as they deliver good music, the distribution among themselves should not matter.

The Trichur Brothers share the rendition quite well.

Regarding the long drawn swraraprastara approach, I think Aruna Sairam has been the pioneer.

At aconcert in BVB in Chennai several years ago, she sang a single composite swaraprastara running into several taala aavartanas and which was longer than the kriti (in duration - IIRC it was Gajaananayutam in Chakravaakam). It did attract applauses sporadically depending on the progression of the staayi etc. No savaal-jawaab with the accompanists in the package. The accompanists were RKSRK & JV. It seemed to be a challenging exercise for the singer (perhaps for the listener too!)
Why don't we call this 'samashti swara prastaara'?

Highly talented duo, lovely sweet voices, sings with perfect sruti.. However, the speed, complex swara patterns and long stretches of swaras kills the beauty of the kritis and the ragas.
