One question - is it accepted to describe ambAl as manasija kOti (or mAra koti as in GNB's bahudAri kriti). manasija/mAra is manmadhan, isn't it?

Sankar - in the context of describing pArvati as being better than a thousand manmathas, I do not think the reference is a comparison of her physical beauty to his, but her prowess and success in making Siva fall in love with her, when manmatha's efforts had failed so miserably.
But, even if this were a sort of gender-bending exercise, in the context of how we in India use similies, this should not be unusual - for after all, aren't beautiful women refered to as 'SaSi vadanA' 'indu vadani' or 'candrabimbAnanA', when, according to Hindu Mythology, the Moon is a male with 28 wives!

Been thinking about this rshankar

IMO, all the examples you give are about the moon's physical observable traits - white/mellow/cool - being likened to a woman's face, not chandran as the graha being talked about in chandram bhaja mAnasa. There is no gender bending in these.

Whereas manasija kOti lAvanya being applied to ambAl/pArvati is a direct comparison of ambAl/pArvati being "beautiful" compared to crores of "handsome" manmadha.

Few years ago TRS recounted an anecdote where he was involved in the same hair splitting with GNB. And GNB conceded and modified the lyric! :-)

Both Monier Williams and Apte give the meaning of manasija as 'the moon' also.
