My first discovery of this young K.gAyatri(disciple of smt suguna purushotaman) is also journaled into rasikas.org. Not to be confused with so many gAyathri's. She was accompanied by violin - ??? and mridangam -???.

The hall was so small and is full, the key point there is always a floating crowd. Needless to say the 70% of the crowd that stayed were grey haired mamAs and tooth set mAmis. But it creates a false impression that the crowd is fully glued. Well that's what is chennai showing full faith for a free concert. I am recollecting all the numbers as I lost the paper and forgot my notebook.

1. evari bOdhana - AbhOgi - patnam
2. vallaba nAyakasya(S) - begada - MD
3. shree chAmundeshwari (R N S) - bilahAri - Mysore vasudevacharya
4. vara nArada - vijayashree not varAli - T
5. kOluvai unnade (R S) - bhairavi - T
6. mini tani
7. a small tamil krithi - br sAranga ?? - ???
8. mangalam

I certainly discovered a very good vidushi . She was courageous with AbhOgi varnam .The begada was nice with swarams, though her choice of bilahari immediately after begada and a rAga that I thought was varAli was a big surprise.

I can say with assertion that I had to take atleast 5 years of continous listening to like begada , bilahari and a rAga that resembled varAli. The floating crowd of 30% gave up in the end of bilahari and varAli . A new crowd came to like what was a fantastic bhairavi. The concert was just for 75 minutes and this young boy could not play much of tani. I also felt he did not use the full toss AbhOgi well.

The last small tamil krithi had a major tinge of br sAranga and surprisingly desh too , partly because I could not pay attention . The young pAvada chattai violinist was very good in bilahari and bhairavi, with she having being little shy to look at the crowd was a treat to watch.

I will remember this concert for ever as the varAli is actually a vijayashree, perhaps my 20 + years of assumed knowledge that varAli is so distinct being shattered to million pieces. In future I have to be careful with varAli.

Perhaps one humble suggestion is she could have given a drop of HindOlam mamavAtu saraswati in hindOlam by Vasudevacharya instead of bilahari sandwiched by begadA and vijayashree/bhairavi. That could have given more word of mouth to all these upcoming artists who really need the right publicity. This is just a suggestion not an assertion. Apologies for not putting the mridangam artist and violin artist name. Asked few they all did not know. Some one can fill up the same

I rushed to hear just 2 numbers of mambalam sisters ThyagarAja's evari kai (devamanOhari)and TSI's natajAna pAlini (nalinakanti). The lunch took a priority after that.
