Dear rasikas,

A small confusion regarding MS Concert @ JAFNA.

Long back, a concert was uploaded in rasikapriya and was deleted stating it will be released as a commercial concert. This particular concert was released, however, I have a small query.

The song list from the sangeethapriya states the below songs (http://www.sangeethamshare.org/kasturi/ ... MSS_Jaffna)

02:39 01 EraNapai Todi Varna Adi PatnamSubramaniaIyer
11:07 02-rAma nannu brOvara-harikAmbOdhi-rUpaka-thyAgarAja
05:21 03-Eppadi Manam(rAma nAtakam)-Huseni-ArunachalaKavi
15:02 04-kanjadhaLAyathAkshi-kamala manOhari-Adhi-mutthuswAmy dhIkshithar
15:26 05 Thaaye Ezhaipal, Bhairavi-Tamil
18:59 06 Kadir Kaama Kandan, Kambhoji-Tamil
10:15 07-sambo mahAdEvA-bowli-neelakanta sivan
11:47 08-nIdhu charaNa pankajamule-kalyANi-Adhi-thyAgarAja
41:55 09-sarOjadaLa-shankarAbharanam Adi-ShyamaSahtri
04:51 10 Araar Asaipadar-Nadhanamakriya-Misrachapu-Muthuthandavar
25:34 11 RTP tODi
05:35 12 Rangapura Vihara-Brindavana Saranga-Rupakam-Muthuswami Dikshitar
05:01 13 kAvAvA kandhA vAvA varAli Adi pApanAsam sivan
05:46 14 Bhajare Bhayya, Bhajan
00:48 15 nI nAma rUpamulaku mangaLa sourAshtra Adhi thyAgarAja

However, the commercial recording mentions the same set of songs till Needu Charana and the list is a total change after the song baring a few.

Disc 1:

I am having one Jaffna concert in which the song Eppadi manam thuninthatho is not there. Moreover, after the RTP in Shanmugapriya, there is Sarojadalanetri. Intrapolations by many MS fans. Even the commercially released one, the recording quality is not very good.

Oh, is it !!

Yes sir, The audio is not good in commerical recording :(

The concert being in 1959s, the kind of voice MS offers is what I would like to listen and also, Kaa Vaa Vaa, we all have heard this song sung by MS & Radha, I would like to hear how MS has sung this with Radha Amma's effect :)

Also, heard from a friend long back that in this particular concert, the audience requested for Saroja Dala Netri and MS has sung this. Do not know if this correct or not, but an alternate version, kind of makes me believe this. :)

If you want to listen to MS voice in the early 50s, there are two albums commercially released. On is in 1956 and other, I think 1957. The 1956 album contains Sarasaksha, Angarakam, Ksheenamai, Raave Himagiri kumari, RTP BHairavi etc. The other one, I do not remember the songs. Both are well recorded ones.

It was nice to watch today's programme featuring MS and Tamizh isai. How sweet when she sings all those Tamizh songs! Yamarintha mozhikalile, I am hearing after a long time (A rasika has given the link also some time ago). She enjoyed singing in Tamizh, I would think.

Hello All,

Can any rasika upload any video/audio of MS? This being the centenary year, we need to talk and share a lot of her music.

Also cienu sir, are there any releases of MS concerts commercially? Please Sir. I know that there would be many constraints to it. But, Please sir :) Atleast, can you upload any video recordings from the private collection to paramparaa1916. If there is any video recording of MS singing any varnam or Sankarabharanam or any of her master pieces (which are all).

Last year, we have had a wonderful album from Sony (From the archives of NCPA) and they said another album is to be released.

Folks: YES!! This is TS's 60th Birthday in 1962 with the whole TS brood spanning 3 generations!! The lady on the extreme right is Thangamma(she died 15 months ago--I have written about her in the MSS thread-)-the niece who "managed" Kalki Gardens/ On the extreme left standing--the lady is Mrs Lakshmi Kannan--wife of the late Kannan-who was Kalki's rep in Bombay. The little girl holding the Unjal chain is Gowri Ramnarayanan

Cienu: As usual YOU are right!! Like your Thatha you are a stickler to small details and RIGHTFULLY so!! Thanks for the nice Company in Cleveland with you,Geetha,Aishu and Soundarya .

We are gearing up for Aishu's concert here.

Hope the rest of the tour goes smoothly.

On our long 9 hour drive to NY we listened to Aishu's CD's you gave us in Cleveland. Myself and Nirmala were mighty impressed with her rendering of both the Krithis and Bhajans of Patti. Both of us wished Patti were alive if only to appreciate HOW Aishu has imbibed Patti's approach to music. The voice in the higher octaves was as sweet as Patti's and the adherence to the sruthi was equally impeccable. As everyone who has heard her before and commented even in these columns, she is making tremendous strides in her music and what both myself and Nirmala Mami noted was her humility and poise--for a young girl with an outstanding lineage --at times a tremendous burden to carry-- she conducted herself onstage as well as offstage with great aplomb and charm!!
May God bless you all!!
I will speak to your Mom later today.

The spectacled lady next to Thangam was the niece of TS called Chelluka who happened to be my mother's aunt. Chellukka's mother and TS were step brother and sister. She was thw wife of Late.S.Natarajan who was Accountant General of Madras state and Andhra and he was also the son of the cousin of TS, Late Sivaramakrishnaiyer, Advocate, Trichy

Vineyan: Thanks for pointing out your aunt Chellukka in the pic--I thought as much--I do not know how old you are whether you were around in 1957 when Radha/Vijaya got married--Chellukka was a riot and virtually did a One-woman stand-up comedy(apparently she knew Radha's in-laws family as well--if my memory serves me right she was in Calcutta at that time-- I still remember her composing and singing "Kalayana Vaibhavame during the Oonjal/Nalangu ceremony. I can safely say she stole the thunder during the entire marriage more than even MS Mami!!!!

Dear Sri MKR, You are right. I was not born during that time.My mother's aunt was Chellukka. She was a much respected socialite. Her mother was called Saradha Manni who was a step sister of TS and who was given a gold medal by Queen Victoria for her work in womens emancipation. Incidentally my mother is also named as Thangam as MS amma used to comment to Chelluka that they also have a Thangam in their house. When my mother was pregnant carrying me and was in Late Sivaramakrishnaiyer's house,MS and TS visited them at Trichy
