My first Sanjay concert this year….far too long a wait….but it was amply rewarded with this fixture at the Narada Gabha Sabha which also featured the brilliant Karaikkudi Mani, MA Sundareswaran and Bangalore Amrit.

Sanjay’s concert started off with a bit of a hiccup as the gateman shooed his car away with one hand and pointed towards the “Parking Fullâ€

MukhAri was very good. But during the openings, both kamAs and AbhEri Sanjay explicitly displayed sanchAras of kAmbOji and Suddha DhanyAsi respectively. SunderEsan at his usual best. KM was excellent, supported by Amrit.

To me it looked, he had not planned this programme well, which has been the forte of Sanjay so far.
tOdi itself looked a piece for tani. When this was not done, AbhEri looked like, he was going for an RTP. Keeping KM around, rasikas felt he would go for a better thAlam for tani(abheri-adi).

I agree with you Karnaticfan - a tani in misra jhampa would have been worthy of KRM....but I am not complainng since I had to step out for a while after the piece and if he had indicated the dreaded signal for the tani at that point, I would have missed it altogether!

Seems, there must have been real 'surprises' thruout the concert.

As pointed in the first posting of this topic, since Sanjay was giving a concert after some gap and being a Sunday evening, there was good crowd, which was there till the end. More so, there was expectation of a great RTP, even when toDi was started. Furthermore, Guruji Mani kept the audience spell bound.

I agree with some of the views given by Karnaticfan. I should add that the kanjira player boldly played well in front of KM.

All of a sudden, Sanjay is being criticized for his 'mixture' of raags etc., and not planning a concert. He is known to occupy the centre in better manners.

It is not that Sanjay has started mixing ragas only recently. Around three or four years ago, during a concert in Cleveland, I heard him sing and he was mixing Reethigowlai and AnandaBhairavi during the alapanai. I almost felt he was not sure of what he wanted to sing. Later on he gave a good account of himself.
I have nothing against him - just an observation. In spite of this, he is one of my favorite artists to listen to.
