This aural subjective review is in the visual order of Right to Left after I attended the concert after few words about this sabha and school.
Jai Gopal Garodia school and Rasika Fine Arts

For many years there has been concerts and I did not go to this school at all . I was internally thinking the place being west mambalam with parking always being a constraint , it is not the best place to go on that day. But Postal colony area in west mambalam is bordering ashok nagar , that part of west mambalam has sufficient streets and roads to just park your car .Atleast it holds good on a sunday. The school building in on three sides with the playground being converted as hall. There is no asbestos roofing (non carcenogenic) and you are hearing concert with moonlight and with summer -no breeze it is always joy .In the last few decades being in city ,we have lost the vibe of sitting and star gazing in night. WIth this hall and school for few hours you are seated with the moon light - atleast it is a bit of throwback to our youthful days where every family had a home with a mottai MAdi summer night out.
I planned to actually go to RK murthy and JV combination. Errands at home delayed my 06:15 start at mylapore and in any case abhishek and HNB pulled me for the 7 pm concert - as always mambalam is the best alternative to mylapore.
HNBhaskar and Violin:

HN Bhaskar authentically represents MSG school. THe staccato phrases came out handy for abhishek concert. The ragabhavam, the press of the violin and the speed were all there at every moment . His reply for sudda saveri was brilliant and the best. The zoning of key kannada phrases did give a carnatic zing effect and his violin play indeed lifted the concert.
Abhishek and Vocal:

At least penning only the few key WOW moments of this concert . What a start was pancharatna , thyagaraja swami gave these gems and with the right sAhitya and swara mix , it is sure joy to hear . Abhishek channelizing his voice with so much intonations and micromuse moments was fantastic . He did not sing like his paramaguru SSI whose style was not rob any of the sAhitya with any extra nervalifying sangathis , but abhishek showed his class in gowlai with an extremely plaint voice that centered on fleshing out every possible non gowling sangathis . Superb start.
I was glad that I graduated to identify sudda saveri in first attempt in first minute . Many years back the same abhishek in nanganallur sang a sudda saveri and it was bonkers till the end for me . Sudda Saveri magic in alapana was extraordinary. I came into sudda saveri world with a generous conditioning of isai gnani illayaraja with few of his melting sudda saveri numbers like KAdal mayakkam azhagiya kangal from that movie AVM'in pudumai penn, it is a a joy to hear this raga. The aakara suddham of abhishek created an alapana of such intensity that sudda Saveri was aurally shown a great dimension . The minutes was only 14 minutes but the intensity of his sangathis was atleast 22- what can i say it received a kharaharapriya status. My mind was thinking LOFOHEAT (Looking forward to hear telusukonti)when the alapana was over , but I discovered a brand new krithi of T , this krithi lakSaNamulu gala does not have racy sangathis like dharini telusukonti, but every phrase he sang brought me a love for Thyagaraja lyrics (I am partially lying here -i said partially if a musician engulfs an interest to a rasika to a foreign language telugu which I dont even know that means the musician has successfully sung that krithi )
The racy followup of gundakriya was well done , the momentum was there and I loved his swara dazzle towards the end. Also the brief bhairavi was brilliantly sung , mature musicians always find a way to atleast register one big five song and looks abhishek did that in style with the bhairavi javali .In the tukkadas i particularly liked his detailed rendition of tulsidas bhajan in yamuna kalyani. He gave a near Santhanam or KVN finish with that tulsidas bhajan in yamunA kalyani
Kumbakonam Swaminathan and mrudangam:

Abhishek usually sticks with the top 10% of accompanist most of the time . Of late I am seeing in general Abhishek helping out with the range of fellow artists . Kumbakonam swaminathan is the disciple of poongulam subramaniam . He is certainly a sarvalaghu champ. He played with lot of energy like his codisciple Arjun Ganesh, i found in tani the volume was very high but the tani passed out quickly (no complaints there).Overall he did a very satisfying job with the aggression of abhi and bhaskar and certainly without upapakkavadyam it is indeed a tough terrain.
Few shortcomings:
---------------
1. Lack of neraval in the whole concert . during varAli i thought he was about to sing that but he dodged . I am pretty sure in ramanavami ,rama will not be happy in not hearing neraval
2. Mamava pattabhi rama was began at 09:12 and he wanted to wrap at 09:15 sharp. Many years back he sang a hamsavinodini pallavi even when the curtains came down , he could have dwelled the manirangu as much as the yamunakalyani . He rushed this song and his bell like voice did not ring .
3.I also found the utsave sampradaya krithi in yadukula kamBOdhi had a higher share of percussion strokes.I missed more sparseness in his delivery and also in the support of swaminathan who played lot of strokes robbing the serenity of yadhukulaKamBodhi.
All said , it was rama navami celebrations ,the flag ship god of CM.What can i say for the most part of the concert it was raghuramanukkku abhishekam.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 10 minutes .

Rajesh, thanks for the nice review. I wanted to attend Abhishek concert. But the logistics prevented me. I think Abhishek has heard some TRS concert recently. Because Lakshanmulu is a TRS favourite. TRS used to excel in this kriti and ragam. I have heard this song only from TRS. Also Ela radayani also TRS number. You should hear it. If you have not heard, it is available in the commercial CD Javali bodhini or Javali pravaham. A parady is Unnai kanadu mayangatha pergalundo by MKT.

WHat ragam is kundalriya? The actual name of the raga is guNTakriyA. Thyagaraja's intanuchu and Dikshitar's rAjarAjEndra chOLa pratiShTitham are the two somgs in this raga belonging to the 15th mela.Intanucu varnimpatarama. Ragam kundalriya
