Thanks Badari! A very nice review and looks concert was very nice .akkarai Subbulakshmi is very competent and accompanies N Ravikiran often.
The Akkarai Sisters are trying to emulate raGa sisters to become vocalista.

Badari,
A super review. By reading it, I was virtually there!
Yes, Akkarai's playing is highly impressive and sweet. When she started performing, I realized how talented she was.The only thing that I wondered about at that time was the way her attention would wander (but she would deliver the music so well at the same time!).
There were spare lemons for another violin student/enthusiast to make lemonade as well
Sparkling reviews at this time of the year, and we all revel in them. Another coincidence: yet another serious student of violin (and an absorbed student in his field of study) has come back after a long time to write a Boston concert review

I have seen her accompany Abhishek Raghuram, TM Krishna, Saketaraman et al, blending to each one's style without much difficulty.

Akkarai Subbulakshmi, for me, holds the same top position today as LGJ/MSG/TNK did in their heyday. The quality of Carnatic music has changed, it has been influenced by many genres and demands, and for her to hold her own and maintain her violin standard always, with any top musician of today, is incredible. She deserves every recognition and opportunity. I do hope the accompanist frustrations she has been voicing go away and she continues at her uncompromising best.

Among the sisters,Akkarai subbulakshmi definitely holds the key and can give good duet concerts with her talented sister. As Sachi points out She is definitely in the top league for violin accompaniment. The accompaniment frustration and the fewer chances for violin duet recitals might have forced her to get in to vocal as well.

Badari,
Kindly allow me to respond to two thoughts in your wonderful review.
A night watchman is expected to "hold the fort" in the fading light with the rival team baying for blood, after removing one of the openers. The probablity of survival in the remaining 2/3 overs by a nonspecialist are almost the same as of a No. 3 batsman who needs to settle down first. The night watchman will play his shots like in T20 today, with no real technique. That has a 50% chance of success, and if he survives, you have made a point to the rivals, and not sacrificed an important No. 3 batsman. This principle is also used on the battlefield, and explained at length in Mahabharata. Also a technique used in chess.
Surprised that you think violinists play a faster alapana to pass it off as tanam. The MSG school is famous for tanam, and HN Bhaskar excels. And most violinists today have worked on their tanam techniques and often upstage the vocalist in that department. Lalgudi played tanam on two strings often.
Hope you don't mind these comments from someone less knowledgeable.

Thank you for the thumbs up review despite the concert modeled along the lines of last minute lemonade. It is bit of blessing in disguise - vidushi jayanthi kumaresh being based out of bangalore , u may always get a chance very soon- but to hear akkarai in an exclusive violin concert is quite a rarity. Also even if violin concert is arranged for akkarai , instead of two sisters playing when only one plays there is perhaps more muse

I agree with Sachi Sir.... In fact I find accompaniment of female violinists (without being labeled as sexist) - LV, Charumathi, Charulatha, Akkarai, Hemalatha to be of high order. I hope Sabhas take back the right to pick the accompaniment and get rid of these set accompanists. I love Varadu accompanying Sanjay - but rarely I hear somebody else accompany him these days, and I can go on and on....
