20-12-2006 2.30 to 4.30 Prema Rangarajan-Amruta Murali and Mannarkoil Balaji

Prema Rangarajan's highlight of the concert was the Pallavi in Misra Triputa Khanda Nadai which she sang with aplomb and precision. Trikalas were rendered with remarkable control of both laya and sahitya.
The pallavi goes like this : Maanikka Maya Bhooshani Madhura Vaani swarna lataangi (Arudi) Sri Raja maathangi

Pallavi eduppu was 1 akshara after samam.
Pallavi Poorvanga --->

Maa (3) ni (3) ka(2) ma (1) ya(1) bho(2) sha(1) ni at this point 5 karvai. ma (1) dhu(1) ra(1) va(2) ni (at this point 4 karvai. swrna(3) lathaagi (3) --> Arudi Karvai is 5

Pallavi Utharaanga --->
sri (5) ra (3) ja (3) ma (3) thangi (3)

It was quite a challenging pallavi to play since it had stopping points within the poorvaanga itself. So have to be very careful during trikala rendition especially third speed.

I played a short tani for 55 (total 110 for one cycle of that tala in Thirdspeed) only the mohara and korvai. The Mohara pattern goes like this:

6+5+8 -- 8 --- 7+5+8 for the mohara.

See you later

Thank u Mridhangam for the very succint coverage of the pallavi .

Coming to the other aspects of the concert, Prema proved her penchant for Vivadhi ragas by a lucid presentation of Manavathi followed by Evaritho of Thyagaraja .

The other highlight of the concert was a leisurely and vivid elabortion of Bhairavi raga in all its regal majesty and splendour. Amritha played as though inspired with chiselled sancharas at all levels. There could have been no better selection than the Annaswami sastryâ€
