Pure conjecture on my part - he might not be yet fully versed or comfy in the art of fine tuning a mridangam, yet.

This is his arangEtram.

Yes... It is not a Naada Inbam event, it is a school/family of K S Kalidas event.

Ajit is student and grandchild of K S Kalidas, son of Ashok. Complete independence on the stage is a nice thing to see at an arangetram, but for one so young, and one who played so well, We can allow the tuning. I have seen much, much older youngsters having the instrument tuned for them.

It was a lovely evening, as an arangetram, as a family event, and, simply as a concert. His father has two sons: both have now done mridangam arangetram.

I am so glad that the concert went off so well. Congratulations to Brinda and all the artists particularly to the young debutant Ajit Ashok :)

Congratulations to Dr Askok Kalidas and his son. Dr Ashok's name brings memories of old Ariyakudi tapes with pazhani playing in his room at Saraswati hostel 1988/89! Also recall all the education of who is who and what is what in Chennai music scene!

Before we could enjoy the firing tani here , Sri Raja Rao sir helped repair this instrument during the intermission ( something customary in Dr BMK's concerts) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVxrnMLBRWM

So even bigwigs needed help when things got out of hand.

PMI's son Sri Rajamani talks about the travails of Mridangam and it's state at the stage here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peAmre1zdDQ

Folks, let's give young ajit a break when he gets his mridangam tuned. If you take a look at the concert, he gave a confident performance of high standard especially for someone so young in midst of an audience with heavyweights. Will write a report soon.

Absolutely. This is not even unusual for an arangetram: I don't know why it attracted attention.

It was a pleasure to meet you... looking forward to your report!

A very mediocre concert. Her vocal range is very limited. She has trouble reaching even the keezh shadjam. Her tara sthayi antara gandharam in kamboji sounded more like squealing. She struggles to catch hold of that gandharam, leave alone madhyamam and panchamam. She could not even sustain for a second on that gandharam in kambhoji. Kamboji is incomplete without sustaining for a while on that gandharam. She is nowhere near the other two sishyas of Suguna Varadhachari namely Vidya Kalyanaraman and Aishwarya Shankar. Needs to put in a lot of hardwork. I was told that she has taken up music full time. I expected much more from her. A lot of sangathis get repeated during alapanai. There is no proper grip over sangathis either. They all seem very slippery. One positive aspect I can see is that she brings forth new krithis to the stage. That is all !
