Vidushi R Vedavalli 80 birthday

Post by ratanabhinav »

Can anyone post the link of video which was taken on Vidushi R Vedavalli 80th birthday at Sivagami auditorium? Youtube video is not found. It must be great to watch videos, visuals of Vidushi R Vedavalli's manodharma and speech made by Smt Bombay Jayashri.n

I don't think that the video coverage was ever made public. Perhaps we can enquire from one of the senior students who were organising.

EDIT: Please see the last posts in this thread. I don't think it ever happened.

Probably this thread should be merged there.

Then can anyone kindly write a detailed review of the event. Nada rasa, kriti rasa and gita rasa. What was showcased in Nada rasa, what was spoken by Sri N Murali, Smt Bombay Jayashri and Smt Aruna Sairam on Vidushi. It would be nice to hear. Anyone who attended the event can write a review? I would be indebted to them. PS: I am such a great admirer of Sangita Kalanidhi Srimati R. Vedavalli. A day does not pass without hearing her exotic voice and emotion, bhava laden songs. When she sings you can hear all 22 srutis

I have just watched and listened to the first part. The sound quality is excellent and better than it was in the hall on the day. Of course, nothing beats having actually been there, but I can now appreciate the arrangement and singing of the students, along with the percussion, even more. It is much more than just a group of students taking turns to sing songs. It stands as a musical presentation in its own right.

Many thanks to Ratanabinav and hnbhagavan for bringing this to light :)

Nick is seen with Madam Vedavalli in the welcome portion.I came to know that she has done fantastic work tuning Nachiyar Tirumozi and Basavanna Vachanas.
A great and respectable scholar who simply does not play to the gallery, but has a good following of dedicated rasikas.

Yes, I was there, and can be seen among those greeting her in the first few minutes of the video. I have watched the entire thing over the rest of the afternoon, and it has been a great pleasure.

I was going to merge this thread with this one about this great event http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26347 as per suggestion by Nick but decided for now to leave it this way since the merge may mess up the flow. I will refer this thread in the other thread so they are linked both ways.

Thank you for the links: In addition to the melodiously moving tribute, I was happy to see a couple of forumites in addition to Nick in the video - Prashant (in the beginning, taking pictures, and in the group singing - orange kurta), and Ashwin Anand (I assume it is him, I have not had the pleasure of meeting him, but he's the only one playing the veena in the clip)!

Prashant also speaks toward the end. Yes, that is Ashwin playing veena on the left.

I am not sure now, but maybe Smt R Ramani was also playing veena, on the other side. I didn't notice on the video.

One can catch a glimpse of Swathi Ravichandran, on whose YouTube channel the video is uploaded: she is playing the tambura on the right hand side, but not easy to see. For those who do not know, she is Sumithra's student.

My wife had translated some of Smt Vedavalli's speach, leaving me with the false memory that she had spoken in English! I was quite surprised to hear her speak in Tamil, even though, in my experience of her public speaking, she usually does. Now I can get the rest translated!
