Akkarai sisters at Girinagar,bangalore

Post by hnbhagavan »

On Saturday, the 9th July, attended a very sweet Violin Duet concert by Akkarai Sisters ( Vid. Shubhalakshmi, or is it Subbalakshmi??, and Vid. Swarnalatha at Girinagar Sangita Sabha. I had attended their concerts twice previously. The Violinists –cum-Vocalists (they remind me of Vid. Ranjani-Gayatri combo or our own Vid. Sindhu-Smitha combo) were accompanied by our very own Vid. Manjunath Bc and Vid. Khanjira Guruprasanna G.. what a team to please the houseful audience...
The Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar’s Attataala varna in Kaanada - Nerenammi gave a bright beginning. Sri Purandaradasa’s Jaya Jaanakiikaanta with kalpanaswaras @ pallavi sahitya was pleasing. Next Vid. Shubhalakshmi rendered a neat and brief alapane in Kumudapriya before singing Sri Dishitar’s Ardhanareeswaram.
The Duo took up Shanmukhapriya for detailed rendition. Mid-way through the alapane, we had to face a fairly long power failure.. After waiting for sometime, audience requested them to continue with a promise to maintain pin-drop silence. The four artists obliged though their Manodharma, I felt, took a beating (slightly upset already by a “not-so-good” sound management.. ). The alapane, first half by Vid. Swarnalatha and later on by Vid. Shubhalakshmi was pure and pleasing for me... They rendered Sri Annamacharya’s Paramapurusham set to Rupaka with Kalpanaswara. Next, the auditorium was filled with soukhya when they rendered Sri Shamashastry’s swarajati Kamakshi Amba in Bhairavi-Mishra Chapu. The brisk Brova Bharama in Bahudhari with swara energised the audience in contrast.
The nectar of our Karnataka Sangita was served with all their “Akkarai” by the Sisters in their next and the main item of the concert. A sweet and delightful raga Sarasangi was the raga of the evening. Top class sweet alapane first by Vid. Shubhalakshmi followed by Vid. Swarnalatha. Taana was also indeed well presented which was well appreciated and applauded by the full house audience which seemed to know its music. The Pallavi, dedicated to Lord Subramanya was presented in Ragamalike ( Sarasangi, Bindumalini, Ranjani...) following which our Brilliant Percussion Duo went throught their routine of reverberating tani. Another day in office for them but, listeners enjoyed..
The concert was then concluded with Sri Lalgudi’s Tillana in Desh.
Sweet concert..

You are correct - I replaced an 'h' with a 'b'...
