Apparently Balaji Shankar was spotted at a TNS concert at this season...

"Ironically, spotted on stage, in the little knot of viewers that sits on either side of the dais, was Balaji Shankar -- former disciple of DK Jayaraman, and quite the most incredible Carnatic voice I've heard. For mysterious reasons, Balaji Shankar stopped performing years ago, when he had just hit his prime, and I've only heard recordings of his. But they're worth their weight in gold -- absolutely note-perfect, imaginative, powerful music, delivered in a voice that can only be described as pristine, and with the elegance and simplicity that are hallmarks of Jayaraman himself. He could have been a contender, Charlie-maama, one of the all-time greats. Why he wasn't will remain one of the great riddles of the universe."
