G Ravikiran for Talavadyotsav

Post by rrnagar_assoc »

it was a memorable evening in cloudy bengaluru. one of my relatives' son learns from sri v krishna who is the person behind the percussive arts centre and hence we were all there (with families) to participate in the talavadyotsav organised by pac.

i am not musically well learned to review concerts :) however, here is the list which my grand niece listed down for me :) i need to understand the nitty grittier of the r,n,s notation :D
  • * varnam - saveri - adi talam
    * yochana kamala - durbar - adi talam - thyagaraja - (s)
    * sri matrubhutam - kannada - misra chapu talam - muthuswamy dikshitar - ragam, brief swarams at "suvasita"
    * parvathi ninune - kalgada - adi talam tisram - shyamu shastry
    * dvaitamu sukama - reetigowla - adi talam - thyagaraja (r,n,s) - at "chaitanyamaa vinu"
    * bogindra sayinam - kuntala varali - khanda chapu - swati tirunal
    * RTP - Saveri - "sri rama parabramha kripa paatra, rama bramha suta sucharitra" - khanda triputa talam - edam was announced by v krishna in his speech as a tricky 3/8 with arudi karvai 7/8. appeared tricky
    * japava madidarenu - hindola - khanda chapu - kanaka dasar
    * tillana - poorna chandrika - adi
    * mangalam
a clean open akaara voice which old timers like me thoroughly enjoy - lot of focus on melody and soukiyam which again is a plus for me.
very energetic in long neravals and swara rounds - which peps up the pace.
the almost full audience stayed till the very end.

pakkams were most enjoyable too though i felt the mridangam vidvan sri mt rajakesari was a tad on the louder side - sri v krishna announced that that is apparently the aggressive style of the mridangam vidvan's bani - anyway i am not educated to comment on layam aspects so it could be my ignorance.

violinist sri vittal rangan was outstanding - though it could use bit more volume - he was enjoying himself!!!!

khanjira vidvan sri guruprasad was very effervescent in his support too.

tambura vidvan i couldn't note his name - apologies.
an evening well spent!!!

Murari,
Welcome here as a reviewer, sir.
I didn't attend y'day but I like GRK's music very much. A very good set of compositions. If 3 generations of your family attend concerts and collaborate in reviews, yours is a blessed family!
