Gayatri Girish in Akhanda Bhakti Gana Samarpana 2016

Post by sankark »

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyxLigT5U2A an evocative Anandabhairavi of http://www.karnatik.com/c5313.shtml; though sung in m cApu instead of k ata.

Please provide pointers to a translation of this PD dEvarnAma.

Dear Sankark,
let me try.

nInE dayALO
raagam: Anandabhairavi

Composer: Purandara Daasar
Language: Kannada

pallavi

nInE dayALO nirmala citta gOvinda nigama agOcara mukunda
You alone are the source of all grace, oh lord of pristine mind (chitta, pure consciousness or mind is without vaasanas, and that defines God) you who are beyond understanding through the Vedas, oh Mukunda!

anupallavi

jnAnigaLarasa nInallade jagakinnu mAnadindali kAva doregaLa nA kANe

Oh lord, the king of the wise (means that wisdom when it reaches the infinite becomes godly), if not you, I can't see any ruler who will rule this world rightly (=ability, grace, justice)

caraNam

mandaradhara aravinda lOcana ninna kandanendeNiso enna
sandEhavyAkinnu svAmi mukundane bandenna kAyO shrI purandara viTTalane

The one who bore (as kurma avataara) the mighty mountain Mandara (implying that no burden is too great for God), oh Lotus-eyed one (represents compassion), please take me/count me as your child, please.
Why any more doubt, oh lord, Mukunda!, please come and protect me, Shri Purandara Vitthala!

The song reflects the mood of a devotee in childlike surrender, after receiving the wisdom to understand the omnipotence and all-encompassing grace of the Lord. This is the essence of Bhakti, as enshrined in the Gita. Purification of the body and mind yields wisdom. Wisdom leads to devotion. Devotion leads to liberation.

most of anupallavi makes sense even in tamil, except for jagakinnu mAnadindali - gnAnigal arasa (o king of the wise) nI alladhE (ninnai alladhu, except you) duraigaLai (lords/durai's) nA (nAn, I ) kAnE ( kAnEn, don't see).

The slayer of demons, the heavenly wish-fulfiller (=mandAra tree) for the miserable/poor ones, the one who dwells in the minds of those who meditate on You, I have become silent in the joy of experiencing you in meditation! Now, please save me lovingly, the one worshipped by the great jnanis like Sanaka

In many ways I plead with you, the one who lifted Govardhana, the one who rides the king of birds Garuda! Smilingly hear/treat my prayer as the innocent lisp of a child, hurry and protect me oh Sagarashayana=Mahavishnu!
