(Key: O=raga outline, A=raga alapana, N=neraval, S=kalpana swaram, T=taniavartanam)

A well planned and well executed concert. Sri Mysore Nagaraj was simply brilliant and so was Sri Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. I had so many good things about this concert to write about but nothing is coming to mind now after listening to Sri T.N. Seshagopalan's (TNS) brilliant concert at Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha. All that I can remember now is just TNS, TNS and TNS.

well ,it was a good concert but didin't raise to the category of a great concert. Mysore Nagaraj was slightly off key & UKS was very subdued. Even the thani was a very short one. Begada was the best feature of the concert.

I was there for the concert too.
1) bhajana sEyu mArgamu (RS,S) - nArAyaNi - Adi - thyAgarAja
3) kalayAmi raghurAmam - bEgaDa - misra chApu - swAti tiruNAL (R N S)
Neraval was in "juvani kaila thilagam vimala gunam"
5) EmA ninnE - mukhAri - Adi - subbarAya sAstri (R N S T)
neraval in "narudenu nenu pA marucanu??"

brief review:
I liked the contrast and sequence of nArayani,mm gowlai and begada .But mukhAri was very good , for two reasons , one is that unfortunately mukhAri is not sung as main because of it not having big 5 status of bhairavi and the myth that it is an azhuga rAgam, second is malladi brothers synchronization is usually felt much better in this medium tempo rAgam, which was slightly little shaky in mm gowlai.

The violinist was off key more in the alApanai return, but all the closing notes of long swaram with UKS playing was excellent.

Watching UKS and any upapakkavAdhyam artist is like watching the tiger chasing few deers in the National Geography tv telecast. YOu will keep on watching the tiger chasing the deer, you will just wink your eye for a second. That's it . The tiger has already pounded the dear.

This concert had a comedy track too. IFA secy Sreenivasan , sang not only mAkelara but also asked malladi to sing the famous kApi, janaki ramana of vanamAlai jeeyAr,with him singing the pallavi. I liked UKS there , he was snubbing by playing along with the secy. shri UKS and his college like exuberance is always infectious.
