As there was no review by experts, giving below my GD's points noted down.
The 2 hrs programme by the soft engineer was full of puns and funs. Very easy for children to understand, follow and enjoy as the discourse was in English mostly. Music was not that much appealing. His dedication to this art was quite visible from the quotes he presented from various sources/ epics. He was very particular about performing Sandhyavandhanam and hence finished it in time. In general the lecture was good.
Few comments [ by elders ] overheard
The old timer jokes does not suit his age.
More than 15 mts he spoke about his CDs and requested to make use of it. [ One good thing he did not open up a sales counter]

Same here, I found him to be very good at communicating / explaining. However as you mentioned his puns and funs fall flat, at least on me. Come across as patronising sometimes which I find quite annoying.

He's also trying to do a "Visaka Hari" by singing songs rather than quoting them while explaining, "mass" appeal I suppose?

Never heard him in person, but have seen plenty of YouTube videos.
