About Shailesh Ramamurthy
Shailesh Ramamurthy was initiated into carnatic music at a very young age by his family. In his formative years, he has undergone formal tutelage in classical carnatic music for about a decade, learning vocal music from Sri PN Krishnamoorthy, and, in flute, from the late Sri Thiyagaraja Iyer and Sri PS Krishnamoorthy. He has continuously honed his skills by subsequently interacting with various vidwans, and in his quest for self-development in music. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with music aspirants, guiding them primarily on vocal music. His quest is towards a balanced and aesthetic presentation of core classical values, also grounded in grammar and musicology. His interest in musicological treatises made him go through the Chaturdandiprakashika and Sangeeta Sampradaya Pradarshini, also participating in reviewing the English translation of the sangita sampradaya pradarshini. He has published papers on the acoustic features of the carnatic flute. He has also been guiding flute makers in the proper design and construction of Indian flutes, given his own involvement and experience in this area.
Shailesh was awarded the prestigious ‘President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold medal’ for his M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has been a domain expert in image, video and signal processing for the last twenty years.
Looking forward to having you on 09 October.
