Sri T M Krishna and team’s concert at the venue was a treat to all the listeners. He was singing with Sri H K Venkatram on Violin, Sri Praveen Kumar on Mridangam and Sri Guruprasad on Ghatam.

TMK’s concerts are special in the sense that, sometimes you need not wait for an hour or so, for the main piece or whatever you may want to call it, to start. This time, it started with a bang, right from minute 0.1!! A short aalapana of Todi followed by “Gajavadana Sammoditha” was the perfect start to the evening. Niraval exchanges on “Vaagvilaasa Karthikeya..” by Vocal and Violin were very soulful. Swara patterns, especially around Nishadham and Gandharam were mind-blowing! Short Tani Avarthanam with both Mridangam and Ghatam playing together made it even special!

There was a soulful aalapana by TMK and HKV, in raga called Tarangini. TMK announced the raga name, perhaps looking at the faces of audience who probably had no clue about it. Mind blowing rendering by both!!

Janhjooti aalapana was incredible and he started with a slokam and slowly moved to the composition. Again, typical TMK style, slow, classy and rich in bhava! Niraval on “Karunakaram haram chandrasekharam” was again amazing followed by some fabulous exchange of kalpana swaras by TMK and HKV. Yet another round of Tani Avarthanam, again kept sweet and short by Praveen Kumar and Guruprasad, added more flavour to it.

A short Ragam and fast paced Tanam, followed by the Varnam in Behag that lit up the entire hall, just about 35 minutes before concluding the concert, was fabulous!! Two back to back compositions of Deekshitar followed in ragas Ramakriya and Saranga. A very nice concert ended with a wonderful composition in Harikambhoji followed by a slokam (Mangalam Kousalendraya..) in the same raga!!

If Rama Rama is a Deekshithar krithi, ragam of that krithi is wrongly mentioned by you. It is Rama kali and not Ramakriya.

Yes it is Ram kali and he did announce that too. Very good concert with the unhurried Thodi at the start was just brilliant.

Yes, it's this krithi. I perhaps couldn't get the name rightly when he announced. Editing the post...

Indeed a very good concert; the best one I would say from what I have attended so far. TMK has settled in his own "no-concert" format and hence, all krithis are important with no tukadas. One thing I noticed that, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer used to sing krithis such as Sapashya, Slokam in Janjhooti and Maaye before the concluding the concert. TMK, obviously being a purist, sang a different and the correct version of Maye with suddha dhaivatha. It was during the Tarangini raaga elaboration, TMK announced the name of the ragam while reflecting that, "not knowing the raagam should not affect the experience of the rasika". Obviously, he could sense that the audience was busy in identifying the raga rather than enjoy. The mind does play games with us in the sense till the time raagam is not identified, there is no enjoyment. TMK did apologize for the comments too.

True! However once the rAgam is known it no longer matters that it is known! Either it is enjoyable or We still have to find ways to enjoy it!
