some kriti in sindhubhairavi.

The concert started with a beautiful short sketch of gauLa and the rare kriti was rendered well with a nice round of svarams. The aTANA kriti was nice and rendered with a nice set of svarams.

The vasantA AlApanai was the best of the concert. It was a nice AlApanai and the kriti was rendered with a lot of bhavam and the svarams were good. The kalyANi AlApanai was followed by a good rendition of the rare kriti with neraval and svarams. The sAmA kriti was well rendered.

The main kharaharapriyA AlApanai was good in parts. The kriti was rendered well with nice sangatis and neraval and svarams. The 10 minute RTP was superficial. The artist probably should have worked out more time for the pallavi to bring out the rAga bhAvam fully.

Sri Sriram Parasuram on the violin was good. His replies to the main artist were better than that of theirs on many occasions.

Trichy Sri Sankaran just stole the show. He playing for each kriti, with great anticipation and appropriate use of thoppi were all very enjoyable. His patterns for each sangati, and the neraval and svarams were good also. He was ably assisted by Sri Purushottaman who played very well. The tani they both was very good.

This was an enjoyable concert - for me, the best part was the calm, composed and refined rendition of maravakavE, a piece that's in danger of sinking slowly into undeserved oblivion. The kharaharapriyA AlApanA contained lovely flights of imagination from Sri Ravikumar. He brings an unconventional Voleti-esque elan to this rAgA which I greatly enjoy. It fell short of the landmark kharaharapriyA at Shanmukhananda earlier this year, but was still excellent. vasantA was relatively stilted but brihadAmbikayai was a lovely rendition.

The kalyANi piece was well rendered with an outstanding niraval. I agree with bharath [nice to put a face to the name after reading so many reviews :-)] that the pallavi was way too hurried. It had a catchy melody, though, and I would definitely enjoy hearing it treated in a more unhurried manner.

I had exactly the opposite opinion from Bharath on Sri Sriram Parasuram's violin accompaniment. He is an incredibly accomplished artiste and his accompaniment for the Nedunuri school has been nothing short of stellar - on this day, he was just a hair's breadth short of his usual excellence; of course, when an artiste like Sri Sriram Parasuram sets such high standards, even small departures get noticed :-). Trichy Sri Sankaran and Sri B.S. Purushottaman - nothing I can say can do justice to their brilliance!

Apart from the hurried pallavi, a very nice concert. It's great to see the Malladi Brothers' voices in fine fettle despite the rigors of daily concerts during the season.

The krithi in sindhubhairavi was 'nIvu dEvuDavu' of Annamacharya tuned by Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri Nedunuri Krishnamurthy.
