Savitha Narasimhan today at SRLKM at 5.30 pm

In continuation with the MS Subbulakshmi Centenary Program, SRLKM is hosting a concert of Savitha Narasimhan today at 5.30 pm in their auditorium at Banashankari II Stage.

She rarely comes out of Chennai so it is a great opportunity for the people of Bangalore to listen to her live. Here is the team;

I missed meeting you.A very nice and well planned concert.RTP could not be accommodated perhaps due to time.The very first varnam in sahana set the tempo for the musical evening.Hope she gets featured more by Bangalore sabhas.

The sincerity of the organiser (GV Krishnaprasad, also see Sruti article on Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira Sep 2016) and the artistes synergised to provide a soulful music to the packed Sunday crowd at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira. The success of the concert can be attributed to her purity, simplicity and her melody and it is a rare occasion when the co-performers become part of the rasikas enjoying every bit of music. This is exactly what Shri. Ganapathiraman said after the concert, who has high respect for Smt. Savitha Narasimhan.

It was a real treat to the Bangalore audience considering Smt. Savitha Narasimhan rarely travels. One can not ask for a better Sunday evening. The list has been provided by badari so do not want to dwell on that and wait for a review. I echo nhbhagavan, RTP would have been an icing on the cake but the end pieces were sung masterly and were reminiscent of MS amma on whose memory SRLKM has been holding concerts all through this centenary year.

I have long heard of Savitha Narasimhan, and heard her whenever Sangeethapriya features her and was eagerly awaiting for my first live concert of hers. I was not disappointed. If one wants to listen to good rich music, this was your day. Both Charulatha and Ganapathy Raman jelled well as a team - and we were yearning for more. Some gripes - wish there were more neravals (only one). Wish also the alapanas were longer.... Each alapana and sketches (which were lovely in themselves) provided such a teasing gist - very nice! Didn't know she was a student of Rama Ravi - whom I never miss in December - and some padams in addition would have been the icing on the cake. Selection of songs were very good - and the diction fantastic. One could write down the lyrics while the vidushi sang...

Hopefully other sabhas feature her in bangalore. Kudos to SRLKM and Krishna Prasad for a memorable evening.

Like Sri.Anand has mentioned, I have also heard that she does not accept many concert invitations . Missed this one as there was another concert closer home on the same day. Sad.

In chennai , consistently she sings in music season only in academy. The slot will be usually evening 1 before sanjay subrahmanyan evening 2 concert. Other than that it is almost zero concerts .

I also wonder about her performing only in MA of late.A few years back she used to perform in a few more organizations.She is such a great artist that if she is not getting slots it is really sad.When I see mediocre artists performing 10 concerts and are being praised then I tell myself it is better that Savita is performing at say just one place.Let me borrow this dialogue from the film Baasha " Savita oru kutcheri pannina adhu nooru kutcheri pannina maadhiri".

Once Music Academy has recognised,then the artist gets numerous invitations-So Savita Narasimhan must be getting invitations,but she may chose to perform only at Music academy.Ofcourse this can only be confirmed by the artist or close friends of artists.
The concert was too good and of high quality which only a professional could have given.Let us hope we see and hear more of her music.
May I request Sri KSSR to schedule her concert at an appropriate time.
