Kannada paper Vijayavani: Dr Suryaprasad's review of Nadasurabhi- RKM & Abhishek concerts

The excellent standard of the Kannada newspaper Vijayavani has been bolstered by featuring today a review of the recent concerts. The reviewer dilates on the good elements of the two concerts listing highlights like young RKM's maturity and musical talent harking back to the greats SSI, MDR, and MMI, especially his Ranjani alapana and Todi, as well as the viruttam. He says Abhishek exhibited his classic virtuosity from the varnam to the RTP.

The review begins by stating that a classical concert has to go beyond showing off a musician's technical skills and create a bhava-filled musical shared aesthetic that behoves well for classical arts, and says these two did that very well.

The title is translatable as," When a vocal concert became visual poetry".

Lovely!! Isn't that what the legendary Smt. Balasaraswati asked Dr. Jon Higgins to do - to 'see' music (and 'hear' the dance)?

Vijayavani, I was told is doing good service to the Carnatic Music community. Their pro active publications of concerts and this review, reinforces that opinion. We wish them good luck in continuing this work.
