If i could say something about his profile then :

He is a Retired Professor from Coimbatore Music College.

He is one among the Four Brothers the eldest Kannan

1.Kannan (Vocal)
2.Sivaramakrishnan (Vocal)
3.Kovai Balu (Violin)
4.Kovai Mani (Mridangam).

Would get more updates and edit them in this forum.

Regards
Krishna.

I think he is one of the Kannan Brothers of Coimbatore. They had one more brother Mr Ramachandran (now deceased) who was into light/cine music.

I had the good fortune of knowing him and even learning a krithi from him when he was
in Madurai teaching at the Music College. A very well respected vidwan among musicians
and he had a very good patantharam. As pointed out by annapoorne, the brothers used
to perform together.

I could narrate a few incidents to all those days i spent with him.

He used to say a lot about P.S.Narayanaswamy and PSN was the Only Musician in those days i.e 1970s to 80s to encourge Kannan & Sivaramakrishnan to perform in Music Academy.
My Sir used to say a lot about M.D.Ramanathan.

Raga Sudha Hall in Mylapore "Nadha Inbam" Sabha was initially started by S.V.Krishnan in Coimbatore.
He and S.V.Krishnan had once arranged for a concert of M.D.Ramanathan at Raga Sudha Hall in Coimbatore.
MDR had come to my Sir's House to tune in the Tambura. His struthi was 6 1/2 (Base).

Sir could still remember those incidents that day MDR was not able to reach 'Mel Sthayi' due to some problem in his throat he told my Sir to further reduce his Struthi.

My Sir still recollects the Voice of MDR when he touched upon the lower Shadjam literally he could feel the ground shaking.

My Sir had once a conversation with Nedanuri. Nedanuri informed my Sir that his Style was similiar to PSN' Style.

My Sir commented on saying His,Nedunuri,PSN and TMT Style's was one and all the same to which Nedanuri agreed accepted to it.

Please do share some comments on these.

Rest in Next.

Krishna

Krishna,

You are fortunate to have him as your guru. He is class apart.. but unfortunately did not have enough people marketing him actively in the Chennai concert circle. We had the good fortune of being part of the regular "Panchami" celebrations in Madurai. He used to lead along with other senior musicians in Madurai.

A wonderful and warm person!!

We would expect you to post more/unknown details about him and his achievements ;-)

A Wonderful and Warm Person!!
He Encourages the Youngsters and small Children a lot by making them sing at Festivals in Coimbatore.
A very neat Rendering of Kritis and Raga Alapanas.
His Kalpana Swaras are amazing and quite difficult to reproduce.

Krishna
