Keyboard Sathya is making waves in many genres of music and sharing stage with many great vidwans/ustads. I think he is a forumite. His father is a rasikas forumite and have attended many of our meetings. Although I have heard his recordings, this is the first time I attended his live concert. The concert was held in PSBB School, T.Nagar on a Sunday morning.
During the concert his father announced that this is 15th year December season for Sathya. It is really commendable that Sathya mastered this western instrument and adapted this to play CM live concerts with alapana, swarams etc. It is a great achievement that in this young age he has played with many doyens in CM and HM and released many commercial recordings and entertains music enthusiasts all over the globe through pure CM concerts, fusion concerts and jugalbandis. In this concert, Sathyanarayanan and Adyar Balasubramaniam played complementary roles. They shared alapanas, kritis and swarams segments. Both of them did not play continuously. That sharing made it more aesthetic and enjoyable.
The concert commenced with MMG kriti which was ornamented with sufficient rounds of kalpana swaras which established his prowess in the CM idiom through the manodharmam and laya control. Exploiting the potential of the keyboard, Sathya played three pieces composed by him which are suitably designed for instrumental music (they do not have sahithyam). Jog is always a favourite for jugalbandis. All the three compositions- Jog, Behag and Kathanakuthoohalam proved the talents of Sathya as a composer. The music is lively but not too loud for the Carnatic ears. Here also Sathya and Adyar Balasubramaniam played alternatingly. The other pieces like Arabhi Tiruppavai, Chinnamchiru kiliye etc were rendered in pure CM idiom. Sathya’s father announced that he has released all the Tirupavai songs in you tube with background music. I am yet to hear that.
The Guitar gave base sounds. Kumbakonam Swaminathan on the Mridangam and Pradeep on the Tabla embellished the concert significantly. It was an excellent performance for two and half hours.

Heard many of the tracks. Especially this: https://youtu.be/_zeO7xSYk2s?list=PL0ne ... yfXPasng-p
He could have used a more professional Ganjira player - to show more nuances. Rest of it with other rhythmic sounds/instruments - only helps to bring out the contrast in the texture of what is truly CM and what is not.
Is there not a piece with Mridangam or is that coming still?
