Does one require a God father to ascend in CM ? !

Post by jodha »

The other day I was listening to an artist in a suburb sabha whom I find was extremely talented. An another rasika sitting next lamented that this artist has just another concert after 10 days in another lesser known sabha and griefed that the lack of a god father is terribly affecting the career of such artists. Also he mentioned that there is mafia and all sorts of dirty politics nothing lesser than the state or central politics.
He confided that an individual who heads a famous organization that has spread its wings abroad also mainly the U.S calls the shot in many sabhas and only big shots like MA have insulated themselves agsinst him.He can make or break the career of any artist irrespective of their talents he added and also gave the names of artists who were promoted by them earlier but in oblivion now. That was a shocker to me because as a rasika I am benefited immensely by the many thematic festivals they arrange.
Finally this man who seems to have a lot of informations that miss our eyes concluded saying that having a god father is primary and talent secondary to gain attention first and prominence next in CM.
Can this be true ?

Cannot be wholly true in any case. Many who get chance to sing are not any less. So many of them are very good. That way even Einstein was overlooked for a routine position. It is not in the interests of music to spread some side talk.

It is well documented that artistes all over the world seek patronage and influence. It is a key element in any performing art. Even Kalidasa needed a Bhoja Raja. The Tanjore Quartet went to Travancore.
Nobody will get SK or Magsaysay etc. purely on a mathematical evaluation model with totally objective criteria.

However, as KVC says, people are equally prone to wag tongues loosely. I remember that some elderly ladies at home commented, when Aishwarya Rai won the Miss World title, that there are many village lasses in Nanjangudu who are more beautiful and talented than Rai but they remain totally unknown and unrecognised. Well, Aishwarya means also exposure and recognition!

That is why no art is absolute and final. It is man-made and man-worshipped and man-rewarded and man-neglected! My thoughts, there is nothing official about it :D
