Going by the rave reviews for many musicians both up and comig and seasoned its a happy feeling generally that there are so many good artists and best talents available. But can we say that all of them have the same caliber!
So if I feel X is better out of the bests on what grounds that decision can be arrived ? This is slightly a different resolution from the judgement of judges in live shows.
It also gives us a chance to analyse the artists' presentation which may be beneficial to the esp.up and coming artists to know their plusses and minusses that they have opportunities to become better of the bests.
The above needs be done without preference and prejudice.

Another approach, something I touched upon a couple of years ago, is not to compare artistes but to select for any favourite or popular artiste from their available body of works in the public domain their better/best works and provide links for everyone in rasikas.org to enjoy and discuss. That will have the twin benefits of discovering the best of these artistes and in the process giving their better works due recognition.

Re: Finding the better from the bests
We do not need best of the bests. I have asked myself and others questions like, "who are the violin trinity of the next generation?" But (with great respect to past holders of such positions) I now realise that it is just not necessary.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their personal favourites, but I don't see any need for any other arrangement of names in a pyramid. Perhaps this ranking is human nature and we can't avoid it?
