It was a great concert, to an extremely small audience. Indeed, with support for shruti and jAlra, the audience headcount was threateningly close to that on stage
Indeed, around 10 30, half an hour into the concert, when the Anandabhairavi krti was in progress, I was in awe of how much wonderful music I'd listened to in just half an hour. All compositions were beautifully played, and the Anandabhairavi rAgam was wonderful.
The momentum continued during the kAmavardhani AlApana, done using an abundance of nAdaswaram brga, which works brilliantly for the rAga. Afterwards the concert kind of sagged -- during swarams, they used a kind of (fast ndmp) - s imitating something like a ta - tadigina (?) on the tavil, prodigally. It was good as a novelty / gimmick for a couple of times, but became irritating soon after. Sadly, it was also employed in shankarAbharaNam. The shankarAbharaNam rAga also included an overdose rapidfire phrases.
I really liked the rendition of mAmava paTTAbhirAma.
The tavil support was excellent throughout. The tani eschewed gimmicks such as pitch bending, and was rich and engaging.
