Long Live Tamizh! the musician sang
May the tamizh folks flourish, he added
Hail to the land called BhArath! followed...
In reverence to all, I stood up as he started
And saw listeners in their seats everywhere
A few had risen, as I looked around...
Then they all got up, to give an ovation
Standing, and off they went out of the hall...
Bharathi's ode to tamizh nADu and nADu forgotten!
BhAratha, gem of a land, the poet meant,
All other states he also loved as tamizhagam--
He sang in praise of other lands too...
Another concert, another venue
Almost all rose for tamizh anthem
It was at the Tamizhisai Sangam:)

CRama.
I don't think KVC is complaining that artistes are not singing in Tamizh.
He can clarify...

You are right Arasi. I am not complaining, but requesting that you write a Tamizh poem.
Right now I am listening to R&G sing Sithapathe, how can one complain of language when such pure music is delivered?
The whole Tamizh Isai movement was because there was opposition to singing in Tamizh. It will be a big loss if the compositions of the trinity and so many other composers are not sung.

I'm recovering from a tiring but music-filled trip.
In the KavithaigaL thread in the Tamizh Literature section soon, I hope....

I believe it was 1960 or 1961. I remember well. MLV sang at Tamizhisai Sangam (Raja Annamalai Mandram) and completed the kutcheri with Vaazhiya senthamizh. In those days, the tradition was usually to end with Neenaama Roopamulaku of Thyagaraja. MLV's break with that tradition was something that was discussed about, criticized and suported by various people then. It was a conservative society then.
