Nanganallur certainly the bigggest bastion of rasikas as it has the highest inflow of next gen rasikas from the land of mylapore and mambalam. The patrons of this samAjam are doing a fanta fabulous job and I had a pleasure to listen to the avatara purushan of Carnatic Music.The start is 6 pm and I could come roughly 10 mins late (I am atleast glad they are not killing carnatic music by starting at 7pm), thanks to the political situation the roads were certainly empty and all roads led me fast to land in near poorna shadjam.
Abhishek just got started with a fine krithi of lavanya rama . I cannot fathom the greatness of poornashadjam other than recollecting ramnad krishnan. Abhishek created enough of brigas and arresting leash over layam that I enjoyed it without even losing a second of aathAra shadjam.
Pantuvarali and Abhishek what can one say. My wow started with Abhishek - vasanthabhairavi , then Abhishek-Todi , Abhishek- shanmughapriya and perhaps the next in that personal list is Abhishek - PantuvarAli. Ideas in alapana were really superb and at times his notion of going with a briga without an iota of leaving a cycle of exhale just kept me amazed . The city outside was fighting for a testosterone battle and Abhishek was demonstrating the testosterone carnatic music. What a joy it was to hear the next pantuvarali krithi , that too the neraval . It was one of a kind sangathis that were so pointed .The little tala that I know I felt he was so beautifully landing at that exact point and taking off beautifully in pantuvarAli. Dear Pantuvarali you will live for another 1000 years with this appA apppA slamdunk rama bhakthi. Swaras were creative - donot mistake that he only sang for 7 mins . He sang the first 5 mins the swaras in one go and then only vittal followed with one return .
I was thinking of TRS mama at the end of pantuvarali swaras and out popped a TRS mAmA special lakshanamulu in suddasaveri . Definitely the renditon of abhishek was not as great as what I heard few years back in Jai Gopala garodia school in west mambalam when I got educated with this krithi when abhishek sang the same krithi which i heard then for the first time. Still NSTSS rendition was well done with a round of swaras.
The raga alapana of melakartha 22 was a creation of Sadguru THyagaraja. There was a phase in early alapana for few minutes where Abhishek decided to hover around the zone of Kharaharapriya - It was not a perfect Kharaharapriya to start with but as he picked up the sangathis of kharaharapriya were wonderful . The joy of abhishek is alapana and I got that in plenty. The high octane testosterone continued with a bit forgotten sowmitri bhagyamE krithi. I have not heard my celestial greats like SSI-MMI - GNB singing this song . I am assuming this krithi first came into circulation with Ramnad krishnan and IIRC TRS and Nedanuri and a bit later TNS have taken this krithi to himalayan heights. I have heard this krithi from OST and Bangalore shankar and I love this krithi. Neraval was taken in different parts of charanam and he sang beautifully . The swaras were having significant typecast like his paramaguru SSI and there were pockets of excess laya kanakku which I DID NOT like it . After the speech a lovely yadukulaKAmbOdhi with one of the finest krithis of T hechiraka gave a great pre finish and then the customary shurutti was well done.
Vittal Ramamurthy was steady and kept a high share of raga bhavam with his lalgudi typecast approach . I was glad that he underplayed either by choice or by Abhishek excess manodharmam especially for not returing the laya kanakku that well . The most improving TVG Student- Vijay Natesan played very well for all the songs , he is getting there for sure to be a big star -I only wish he gets bit more muscle , patterns are fine. Chandrasekara sharma gave great support and it appears he has already got a lot muscle power of late that reflects in his play. Tani I zoned out a bit.
THere were few rounds of applause from many where I went with the crowd and only once in KHP swaras i was wondering why folks are clappping for this intense mathematics where I did not like as it was robbing the KHP raga bhavam. All said As always the creativity was in full flow especially with the three intense drops of Pantuvarali, sudda saveri and Kharaharapriya floored by his high energy testosterone.

The texture of the crowd is a great mix of all ages and as always the critical count is those who are super seniors . Nanganallur ramanathan is founder secy of the samajam and he is just a great patron. He is just 85 years young and he said this year we have managed to collect only half of our expenses . He was joking and perhaps stating the fact that 2000 Rs was the available currency and it was steep for many to offer . At the same time , he said he is not bothered about that and he asked each of us to come again for today and tomorrow to wrap up with uncharaviritti. A bunch of disciples are going to sing today. It is only this confidence and most importantly the unconditional love for Carnatic Music sabha patrons that kicks more and more rasikas for the future . The full house did have a free concert and we all enjoyed celebrating Abhishek and his team . I only wish if ramanathan in his over enthusiasm did not ask Abhishek to sing a mangalam after yk kambODHI. THere was another 15 minutes till will we had the usual and dreadful 9pm.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 45 minutes inclusive of speech for 10 mins.

I was told he sang Suddhaseemanthini before poorna shadjam.
