Few years back when AS Murali impressed me with his intense classical music @ tambaram, I just thought I could hear him for the second time at MFAC. Traffic snarls killed sudda seemanthani and I just entered when the last phrase janaki ramana was sung.

He started then with nAdathanumanisham , this raga cittaranjani and this krithi gives me enough oomph and I felt murali could have sung slightly faster to give the usual oomph. Begada alapana was way too short but he sang well and followed with the krithi - i felt he could have come out of his comfort zone and chareged with more manOdharmam . But it didnot hapen

The pantuvarali was done quite well , little more aggression would have suited my taste but his rendition was bit of standard wellset oiled sangathis that you typicallly hear with most vidwans and vidhushis

The front to back shree ranjani and dhenuka was nice , I just felt the shree ranjani would have been better if it had more laya leash. . Dhenuka swaras were quite short he provided good momentum there for the fall to the forthcoming main.

The days best was unquestionably his nattaikurinji main and he began with that gentle descend . I am assuming more than semmangudi , PSN mama has taken this krithi manasu vishya more number of times in his performing career. The krithi was sung well with a bit curtailed swaras . No complaints on his main nattaikurinji and i enjoyed it a lot. This krithi and nattaikurinji alapana showed his class

IN tukkadas the joy of hearing a new flavour of coffee was the best . I did not know the kapi krithi Edi nI bAhu bala parAkrama till murali sang. I wish he went with more songs but the closure was as though it was a doordarshan recording where there is a hard stop.

Violinit RKSK played well and his role was bit limited as there was not much N and S. I am assuming BS sundar kumar (who is also nephew of AS Murali)needs bit more conditioning to be more well set with mrudangam . I felt there was not adequate toppi usage and I felt he did not gel perfectly and also the mrudanga vadhyam was not heard as a shruthi vadhyam.Chandrasekara sharma was lovely, great patterns , sustained sound and good rotation with a nice crispy tani support . Chandrasekara sharma is getting there in the league of Ghatam Suresh, Ghatam karthick , trichy murali and sv ramani callibre.

AS Murali should have utilized more to present the wide canvas of sadguru thyagaraja compositions even within the 2 hours that he decided in terms of maintaining the sadguru Joy.APart from nattaikurinji which stood out , i felt bit more justice to other songs with his nice sAreeram and definitely bit more manOdharmam would have made me much more happier. Both the sishyas sang more to Guru's ears .Looking forward for Murali's third live concert where I could participate.

Overall a good to very good concert for 2 exact hours
