2 hours - Concert
Vanajakshi Kalyani ata thala varnam
Brovavamma Maanji
Abhimanamu Begada R, N and S
Chakkani Raja Karaharapriya R, N and S
enguvadhu Ariyaano Ahiri
Concert started at a good brisk pace. Adithya sang the varnam in 2 speeds including charanam. Both Charulatha and Balaji enlivened the presentation. After this peppy number came Brovavamma. Kalapramanam was really chowkam...quite in sharp contrast to the tempo in varnam. This was too good a presentation coming from a 19 year old boy. Kudos to his Guru Smt Sugna Varadachari. Then came Begada. The build up was very good..I felt that he got excited and the finish was not as good as the 'build up' He took up 'Abimanamu' and presented it neatly in Madhyama kalam. Neraval in vinna pambu stood out and bore the stamp of Suguna varadachari. However, if I take to the same standards, maybe the swara segment climax left one to feel...that something is missing...Is he tired or is it the flow..I had this question in mind when he directly went to Karaharapriya without a filler(usual fast paced). Raga essay was different and lively, inline with the kriti, with some very good phrases. I thought he eschewed semmangudi'ish Anthara Gaandhaaram in karahapriya. Chakkani raja gait had a 'raja margam'. Must mention Balaji's accompaniment here. He shadowed the vocalist very closely and was encouraging him and goading him with his 'aha's' and Bale's. Neraval in kantiki sundara was exquisite with musiri, suguna varadachari stamp. Swara segment was very good belying my earlier fears in Begada. Concert ended with ambujam krishna's enguvadhu ariyaano leaving a hunger to hear more.
A concert is lifted only if the pakkavadhyam cooperates and participates with involvement. In this concert, Charulatha, Balaji and sankar were very involved and the senior violinist and mrudangist were generous in their support, understanding and involvement. Charulatha's violin responses were very apt and subdued where required. I wish she is seen more in chennai circles. Balaji's sensitivity came to the fore in Brovavamma. Sankar was restrained and shadowed Balaji very well. Thani was robust but peaceful(not noisy). It suited the finish after swarams.
Adithya seems to be growing/learning in every concert. During neraval in kantiki sundara, his body movements were more! Maybe he should check, lest, his energy will be wasted and not channelled to singing. He seems to be oriented to singing Ragams for atleast 10 to 15min or more and gets very involved. The number of kritis presented were just 4 other than the varnam with more manodharmam in the concert. For me this is good. I liked the way he communicated spiritedly(always with a smiling face) with Charulatha and Balaji.

Overall a very good concert.

Thank you for your review . I have heard aditya only thru recordings with limited sample set , yet to hear him live. He has ideas and also nice throw , his music also overlaps with young TM Krishna . With a major anchor in musiri bhava Aditya will surely be interesting . Would be great if his parama guru's pradhana sishya TRS mama music also sediments with young aditya.

Rajeshnat,
Thank you. I too felt that Adithya's music overlaps young TMK. However, he is too young and many a times kids start by aping initially and later on imbibe a style of their own. So as of now, i am ok.Encouragingly, i also noticed is that his range is good and he gets involved in what he is dishing out and does not cramp a concert with too many kritis. He has promise as also other youngsters today. Just that we have to encourage them more with just nudges here and there.

About 10 or 12 years before I noticed Pattabhirama Pandit has the texture like TM Krishna and I recollect the same writing in this forum There is no connection at times Lord Brahma creates at a high level only say 10 groups of voices with few exceptions where brahma was bit dozing when MDR came uniquely with his voice into picture . There is nothing wrong even if aditya channelizes like TMK . As long as intensely classical it works for me . Best wishes to young aditya.
