It was vintage OST doing what I like him do best - singing Sri Thyagaraja's compositions. Even the bad audio arrangement couldn't mar his excellent performance.
The main alapana for the day in raga tODi was sung by OST for 18 minutes. The taniavartanam in misra jampa tALam played by Sri Mannargudi Easwaran and Sri B.S. Purushottaman was a treat to the mind and to the ears. The kuraippu and the end kOrvai that merged into the beginning of the song stood out.

I was there in the concert from shreeranjani to the end . Definitely his shree ranjani was excellent . I liked his asAveri a lot. The elaboration of tOdi alApanai was grand ,but however the neraval and swaram were not in the right proportion.
Also the kedAragowlai was to me more of a yadhukulakAmbOdhi(possibly the distint tara sthAyi of kedAragowlai was missing). Loved his aahiri ,always I hear this vArijanayana krithi getting started with an anupallavi line sompaina. One of his often repeated neelAmbari was very good.
Overall looks like OST's forte is his repertoire of thyagarAja krithis.But would have been nice if he also goes to tara sthyai in his renditioin too. Laya Accompanist's were very good. The violinist was excellent especially in shree ranjani alApanai.

Are you sure he sang a neraval in shree ranjani,I did not get that.Can you tell me where was the neraval.??

I only noted in my notes as paahi raama . The song was too short and I could see a trace of varAli?? a lot in that song. But after looking at the bible , I could see 3possible paahi raama???. May be ramakriya ,you may be indicating the paahi raama doota in shhadvidamaargini.ramakriya wrote:Was this sung as a 20th mELa janya?ram wrote:11) pAhi rAma dUta - vasantavarALi - rUpakam - thyAgarAja

The kriti pAhi rAmadUta of Tyagaraja has 2 pAthAntaras; One in shadvidhamArgiNi and another in vasantavarALi ;
The only version I have heard is of Hyd brothers; They sing it in shadvidhgamArgini (but in madhyamashruti). So I was wondering if Malladi brothers have the same pAthAnthara or different , since Ram listed it as in VasantavarALi.
