endhuku peddala ns@vEdashAstra thathvArthamulu thelisi.

think of a big tank brimming with almost still water but for few ripples due to a gentle wind and few vortices due to whatever, at about sunset time. Such an image is apt for this s’bharaNam. First kalam swarams were like that wind on you. tani

So, VS was ...
a) Vid. Vijay Siva
b) Vid. Vijayalakshmi Subramaniam

Thanks!

Update, after reading Ravi's comment below in Post # 12

I did not mean to sound rude with my query above.

I should have said Thanks for the review! Please clarify whose concert it was.

I'd think obviously Vijay Siva looking at the song list (neravals)

Why the guessing game ? Is it too difficult to spell out who V.S & C.R. are in the first place ?!

"nenjakkanakallum, this season's kaNNi nun siRuththAmbinAl perhaps" - Nice one.
I wonder why Vijay Siva (VS) is taking kandhar anubhoothi which is bit lengthy. It is something unusual and no other artsts try this.

My humble request:
Always it is better to give the full name of the artists and accompaniments as a mark of respect to the vidwans. Also to avoid debating the artist names.

I entered when Charumathi Raguram was returning Shankarabharanam. VS's pronunciation in "Sh"aastra in neraval was very good. He was in full flow and a revelation to hear that "gambheeramaana voice" in high octave.

One thing in the Meenakshi stotram verse - "naade, naarada tumburu aadhya vinute"... he sang that as "aadha (instead of aadhya) vinute". VS is always very careful in pronunciation !!!.

This verse was discussed sometimes earlier when someone was reviewing TNS Krishna concert in Raga sudha hall. TNSK sang this verse in Kalyani (if I remember correctly)

Can understand the need for disambiguation. But re: respect.... we have had GNB, MLV, MMI, DKP, DKJ, KVN......

Vijay Siva is probably one of the finest classicist of his generation... doesn't visit bangalore often :( and pity, academy has passed on him for 4th year in a row

I wonder why the tone of some of the posts in response to the review sound a bit like looking a gift horse in the mouth!
A big thanks (to the OP and everyone else who posts a review) for sharing your experiences with us in the spirit of yAm peTRa inbam peRuga ivvayagam!

And even there, he is the first amongst equals.

rshankar - yAm peRRa inbam peRuga ivvaiyagam. Hope you could derive the pleasure from the written words. Though, in my experience, VS's experiences don't translate that well to the written word, they are but a pale impressions even if you were to write reams and reams.

sankark, I appreciate all of the reviews you post (especially as they always seem to be the concerts I miss when I am in Chennai or the ones I had no chance of attending when I am out of Chennai). Using abbreviations isn't bad, really. That said, could you please put type the main artist name at least once in your review posts - either in the opening post or in the subject line? It saves a lot of headaches and may result in more people reading. My 2 cents anyway.

Yep... If I had money to go for only one concert, I would go for VS :)

Gg.
Sometimes, you had to really feel so unlucky you are, when you have money for one concert, but on that day, you have four excellent artists perform in different sabhAs......

Give you the clue- On 20th december
Vijay Siva is performing at Parthasarthy sabha at 6 PM
Malladi Brothers performing at NGS at 4 PM
Bombay Jayashree is performing at 6.45 PM at Music Academy
Sanjay is performing at Ethiraj Kalyana mandapam at 7 PM

Another clue - on 24th december
Ramakrishna murthy performing in PSS at 4 PM
Malladi Brothers performing at MA at 4 PM
Bombay Jaishree at Mylapore Fine arts 6.30 PM
Sanjay at NGS at 4 PM

welcome to UNESCO December season..

The chances are that you may not get the ticket for one concert, and you can choose from the other three!

Logic dictates that you should spend your money on a concert by an artist whose concerts are almost never free; namely, Bombay Jaishree.

You can listen to all others for free pre- or post-season.
