She proves how a sampradaya based system works great - for an artiste with not so endowed voice ( sometimes there is a flat emissions - due to the nature of her voice) !! An artiste with good control on time flow as well and uses it to her full advantage!

A note on ninnuvina mari galadA:

While Amrita murali sang in triSra naDai Adi (youtube available BSU 2015 or so) , many artistes (heard OST once) sing in rUpakam. I think Syama Satrification requires that this be sung in triSra naDai Adi.

I had few months back seen a video of Shantala Subramhanyam ( Shashank's sister) in facebook publish a video of this singing it in rUpakam, where already kAravai's started shifting syllables to unaesthetic positions!

A lot Syama Sastri's krithis have suffered a similar fate. Ninnu vina in Purvikalyani is actually in Deshadi talam mishra nadai- both of which are out of vogue! Similar examples exist for krithis like Shankari Shankuru Chandramukhi in Saveri. Vide Syama Sastri's family notebook, this is pretty evident.

As for this krithi, the fact that this ragam changed from Abheri to Reethigowla conclusively proves that Reethigowla originally had D1, even in the compositions of Tyagaraja like Chera Ravademira and Bale Balendu Bhushani and Deekshitar called it Narireethigowla. So we actually went from Narireethigowla to Nari-pona-reethigowla!!!!!

The descendents of Syama Sastri says the ragam of ninnu vina marigalada is Reethigowlai.
Reethigowlai has underwent a lot of transformation form what it was before. The reason for the occurrence of chatushruthi dhaivatham can be traced back to 15 CE when it was considered as a janyam of melam Sri.

Vijay siddarth - what is the reference for deshadhi misra nadai?
The descendants mss say the krithi ninnu vina gamari is set to misrachapu (4+3).

I had been to Vidya Kalyanaraman's concert at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on 06 Dec but reached the venue 'very very' late due 'logistic' reasons. She was winding up Mamava karunayaa (taking off @ Kaamitadaanalola' after the Tani) when I entered the hall. But could observe from the audience that the going has been excellent. She concluded with Pibare ramarasam in Ahirbhairav and a Tillana. The snap I clicked hurriedly in my mobile showed her with folded hands thanking rasikas (including me) after the concert!
