Very mediocre singer. No spark at all nor any azhuttham. Manodharmam sound like it was mugged up from a notation of a DKP alapana. Thankfully, unlike Ashok Ramani she is aware of her mediocrity and sings only one concert a year. Thanks God for small mercies?

If am not wrong, She is the disciple and daughter of Shri. DKJ. She has resumed singing now after some tough times, which would need laurels by itself.

Mediocre? What a pity, that she comes from an extremely chaste parampara and doesn't resort to the cheap gimmicks and cacophony for furthering her career. Her wonderful pin pAttu to DKJ in the old recordings and the students fortunate enough to have learnt/ learn from her (My brother being one) would testify what a wonderful vidushi and teacher she is.

A wonderful teacher doesn't make a wonderful vidushi. The fact of the matter is that her music is too lightweight and lacks the authoritative stamp of DK Jayaraman. While her music is traditional and padantharam impeccable, the manodharmic quotient and the 'spark' Nityasree or even DKP/DKJ possesses is missing in her. And I am sure if your brother wasn't learning from her, you would agree with me.

If you want to listen to someone with a chaste parampara and someone who doesn't resort to cheap gimmicks and cacophony for furthering careers, I would suggest Vijaya Siva and even pre-2011, pre-thukkuda Nityasree.

She may have resumed singing after some tough times, but it is important that her singing shouldn't cause tough times to listeners!

She had been providing vocal support to her father for 10-12 years until he passed away. If you call a performer with a decade and a half of concert experience 'new to the concert world' I have a bridge to sell to you.

However Please do not use strong words like MEDIOCRE for the person who has the guts to sing on a platform.Good/bad days are there for all Musicians.
Being a good teacher and mediocre singer do not go well.

One can praise the guts, the effort put in and still call it what it is (if it is mediocre, great, meh). Nothing offensive or wrong in that. As is the trope in the cruel stepmotherly treatment and the eventual dialogue in some tamil movies, sometimes it may spur the concerned person to do better. Seems like calling a spade a spade is becoming politically incorrect - right from KG days.

Not having recalled her name, I assumed she was a newbie. My fault. Still, her background and her coming back to singing after a long spell needs a bit more sympathy from the critics, if I may say so...

If you are not happy with the quality of music, you can stay away. Is there a compulsion to attend and crib ?

There are 1000s of sabhas and 1000s of musicians performing. There is no dearth for music in chennai at least.

I went to listen to this after reading the negative comment here; despite some points which can understandably not be amazing, the concert was OK from what I heard - it just seems a pity those better parts were not noted when delivering the criticism.

malam72, and now his other personality, listen to concerts for the sole purpose of coming here afterwards and trashing them. So pay no heed!
