------------------------------------------
It is just a 100 year fight for many to overcome the infrastructure barrier particularly the sabhas of mylapore, alwarpet and T Nagar are clearly leading with better infrastructure of parking, acoustics and at times even canteen. Sabhas do spawn here and there but this one in thiruvanmiyur is quite a great place it has the potential to give run for the money for the established sabhas . The sabha has great seats, sound proof is good with nice ceiling , parking is there and the slope is there with seats so you have both visual and aural contact . This is the first time I am visiting this sabha one can say the acoustics and hall with seats is bit like IIT madras hall and the parking is like PS High School , for sure this is a big bastion soon. I am glad right sabhas are coming up in chennai. Kudos to carnatica and sashikiran for finding this place and conducting a season here .

Moving on with the concert , it was a 2 hour concert and an evening slot as publicised . I can surely say this musician suryaprakash has mastered the most in giving intense and distilled content with zero sag , his 2 hours is atleast an average 2 .5 to 3 hour concert . Start was sparkling , the alapana was just a sketch in pantuvarali particularly sarasaksha gives his secondary paramaguru semmangudi touch in me . What a flow it was with two percussionist balaji and karthick went in a "kODu Potta Road Podra" mode . The neraval in the line bhamini was well done and the symmetry of patterns in pantuvarali gives a ferrari ride and they did well .

THe next atana pAhi shree ramA ramanA was lovely , it had a slow gait . I dont think i have ever heard this composer margadarasi srirangam sesha iyengar ,he sang wonderfully the atana questioning swirls were there more towards end. I just googled to find he is a contemporary of T , the krithi had a ST krithi like feel . I have personally never heard this atana krithi and would love to know who else has sung this in past.

The day belonged to Charukesi. The Madurai Mani and Lalgudi school accompaniment owns it and Suryaprakash and Pakkala(disciple of LGJ) did pep it with right aesthetics. Alapana was chiseled with wonderful sangathis , but if there is anything that is best it was the nerval and swaras . The orientation of giving the charukesi raga swaroopam with only the keyword caduvulanni and then only caduvu just gives that enormous oomph of charukesi in a true ganakaladhara way. The swarsa in charukesi were simply spectacular .

Detailed bhairavi alapana followed and was well done. Pakkala was not that great here and his return was not exposing that raw beauty of bhairavi . Nevertheless the song was sung with an enormous stretch of sangathis , he took his time and was superb. There was also a lovely round of cittaswaras in sari evaramma. The fast paced HMB krithi in gowdamalhar was bit truncated suryaprakash fast filler is unique especially in swaras and he did well there with on spot manodharmam

The RTP was in brindavana saranga . I have heard this pallavi when he got promoted to academy slot 4 to 5 years back . IIRC it is the same pallavi , the pallavi amaippu was in dwi nadai and he did well in a blistering pace especially in taanam. Swaras were well done the kedaragowla and the raga srothaswani(new to me) was well sung. He sang that raga srothaswani like a typical darbari kanada swara ragamaliga , i felt it is a lovely raga the shade was close to suddha dhanyasi and may be light sprinkle of chandrakowns or a hindoLam cluster. The traverse from srothaswani , kedaragowlai to brindavanasaranga in one go was well received by all in the crowd .Tani was crisp and he ended with a tukkada in viruththam and a followup GKB thamizh krithi , in that segment i enjoyed the bhageshri segment the most for his detailed treatment in viruththam.

Pakkala ramadas played well in charukesi and his lalgudi school was omnipresent there . I felt in few places in bhairavi and brindavana saranga he could have shown quick flashes and not adopted a brick by brick approach which he already did in charukesi.

For a manodharmic suryaprakash the two percussionist did the icing perfectly, it was ease and exuberance from both at times Karthik tapping and almost giving full air time to Balaji did up the concert as the tempo never sagged . They played a lovely tani with two nadais . At many points in charukesi ,pantuvarali ,bhairavi and brindavanasAranga RTP the team earned lot of applause. For me particularly the entire charukesi, the pantuvarALi nerval ,bhairavi krithi ,srothaswani swaras and atana rare krithi made my day. Suryaprakash is adding more voice weight especially in mandara sthAyi which was never a case say 5 years back

Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 5 mins in this mylapore future challenger tiruvanmiyur sabha with right acoustics and infrastructure.
