Out of the world concert. The one that I enjoyed the most this season. Pity he is not singing in MA.

VS - i think he is the Sobers of Carnatic music. He can do everything with ease and panache. Taking the cricketing metaphor, as sankar said, he sehwaged and gavaskared his way in - was dravidesque in SP, Mohanam was like Viswanath, RTP a la Laxman and tail was just incomparable. Even in tight schedules, the way he plans his concerts, I look forward eagerly to his tukkadas. Almost shouted out a request for javali . More importantly as a team they gelled so well - DKJ must be smiling in the heavens ....

Pity his concerts are few and far between and look forward to the day when he starts performing in MA again....

That statement is objectively incorrect . VS is slightly on the high side only in terms of count of concerts . Over the years i have observed The biggest marketine mela for a CM artist is Bharath Sangeeth Utsav curtain raiser in epicenter of chennai in Nov and followup in Television preferably the margazhi utsav conducted by subhashree. So as such VS is featured in both. Also in last 2 years since he got into Partha after kalasarathy award after many many years of absence . Also he is in media circles part of the big TMK-RKSK gang so he is also there so papers like The hindu gives more writing space to him too , if you recollect he had few superb q and a exclusive writeups. Sabhas like SKGS which have few slots feature VS . As such for Academy VS , Suryaprakash and TNS Krishna not getting featured is a bad miss yes considering superb musical aesthetics , but they have adequate spread so you dont miss their music in chennai. Youngsters are pushing way too fast into evening slot. They are not naive like a tm thyagarajan to play tambura and vocal support for too long with semmangudi . Vijay is a classy musician and you guys go hear in traffic snarls in IFAS which is great for any artist. BEst wishes for VS he is on the right track, the pity can be directed elsewhere to other artist like say Sreevalsan MEnon(i think he got no concerts this year) or VR Dileep(Today he has one) .

While Vid Suryaprakash and Vid TNS Krishna May have been dropped by the MMA (rotation by rest scheme), SrI VS chose not to sing at the MMA for reasons of his own...they should not be lumped together.

Another great concert. Again missed. I sent my daughter to listen to this. When I entered, after winding up Sanjay's concert, he was finishing "bhajarE". With RSK, in violin, one can expect "double dhamAkA"

apAra karunA sindhum- when he started, I thought "Oh NO, not again".... But it is RSK's kriti, so can't help it. It was thanksgiving song by VS to RSK !!.

Venue- I like your Gg's comment. If you compare Bheemasena kalyAnam mandapam (PSS), this is better, more spacious. But, I don't recommend kalyAna mandapam's for concert. you cannot settle for a good acoustics here.

I am that 'him' who was shooting. Post the concert, I approached him and mentioned I am quite sorry to disturb the concert. I also said I was not shooting as I know the principles. I was taking a pic. He said, I tried to signal you and apparently I missed it. So he had to be harsh. He said the cameras are distracting. One takes the camera out and others will follow suite. He said sorry for being harsh as well and was all smiles when I spoke with him and wished me all the best as well.
