Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know of studio or live recording of carnatic music that were done with audio quality and fidelity in mind? I have the Margazhi Ragam recording from TMK and Bombay Jayashri, are there others like it? I have a decent sound system at home and tired of listening to YouTube on them (by the way, the MadRasana channel on YouTube is a treat. Still, hampered by the compression getting it online). Any CDs you have that stands out to you for the recording quality as much as the musical quality?
Thanks!
High quality recordings

Re: High quality recordings
Come to think of it, I feel we stopped listening to REAL sounds of the voice or instrument loong back.
Even today's chamber concerts are miked and filled with electronic tambura noise=nonsense.
Just as too much salt, sugar and fat informs all that we eat, and as housewives are asked to cook up the taste of restaurant treats, the corruption of audio quality in CM is perhaps irreversible.
I just read a nice article from Dr Padma Sugavanam about her experience in performing a chamber concert without electronics.
Godspeed to MadRasana and the like who work on producing authentically balanced sound and video recording. I still feel All India Radio tops in this!
YouTube is only a medium. And audio suffers less there than video due to compression.
Just my 2 cents.
