Melam72 (Venkat) no more
It is to my deepest regret that I wish to inform you that my husband Venkat (Melam72 on these forums) passed away on December 15, 2017, on his 49th birthday. It happened in our Chennai house in Alwarpet, when he slipped on the staircase and hit his head against a banister. He lost consciousness and never recovered.
He was by no means an easy man to live with, with his fits of passion and anger. Neither was his life easy, facing humiliation and disappointment in every quarter. But he loved music, history, and literature to a fault, and to those who loved the same things, he loved them to a fault. He is survived by me, his wife, and his sister Varalakshmi of London, UK.

Mrs. Melam72,
Kindly accept our condolences.
Losing someone that close to you is not an easy thing to get over. May God give you the strength.
The fact that you are sharing the news with us shows your consideration and the importance Melam72 gave to this group. That is not a surprise to me in fact. Through the efforts of people we never meet and are almost never grateful for, we have here a forum where we connect with equally crazy people.
And in fact, such craziness is the spice of life.
Please take care and ask if we, I mean I, can be of any help in any matter.
May Melam72 continue on his journey with the right mela towards his karta!
Kindly accept our condolences.

Re: Melam72 (Venkat) no more
Thank you all for your wishes.
Sachi_R: thank you. I am moving back to Madras some time this June/July. It is just very hectic wrapping things up in Singapore - selling the house, selling the cars, talking to the bank I work at to transfer me to Madras, and so on. Truly touched by your offer.
Sureshvv: Venkat hated photos with a burning passion. The few photos we have of him he didn't know of. To respect his memory, I will refrain from putting up photos. I hope you understand.
Rajeshnat: His full name was Venkat Muralidharan.

Charu,
I was alerted to this thread only now by a friend, and I was stunned...
I had just asked you in the Gregorian chants thread if we had met, since you addressed me as Rajee...
My sympathies of course to you and to the whole family...
I am intrigued though. The whole thing appears like a dream--melam72's mysterious and at times menacing presence and his end as we now know, hearing it from you--how I wish it weren't so cruel but just happens to be a figurative tale! Something unrealistic, yes, a dream--and how I again hope that it is just that! A mere prank which he is playing with us--pretending as you even
Should I stop dreaming??

Re: Melam72 (Venkat) no more
My sincere condolences. It is tragic that his life was snuffed out in so unexpected a manner and to leave behind one's life partner so soon. Yes, he was highly opinionated and I sensed a degree of anger in his writing for whatever reason, but at the end of the day, I felt he was ultimately a passionate rasika. He will be missed. Please take care.

While it is sad, I do hope that what died is only the pseudonym.
