The 12th annual Shankranti festival & the 87th birthday celebration of Sri R.K.Srikantan was inaugurated by the Karnataka chief minister H.D KumarSwamy.Concerts were organised by the trust from Jan 16th-19th in Malleshwaram, Bangalore.

Vocal:K.N.Shashikiran & Chitravina.P.Ganesh(Carnatica Bros)
Mridangam:Renuka Prasad
Violin:C.N.Chandrashekar
Ghatam:Krishnamurthy

Song List:
1.KanakAngi(Varnam)-Thodi-Khanda Jati Ata tala
2.Jaya Jaya JAnaki KAntha(Devarnama)-NAtai-KhandaChApu-Purandaradasar
3.Nejeisi nene-Poornachandrika-Adi-Patnam Subramanyam Iyer
4.Entha ninne-Mukhari-Roopaka-Thyagarajar
5.UmaGowri-Poorvikalyani-MishraChApu-Chitravina N.Ravikiran
6.JagadODhArana-KApi-Adi-Purandaradasar
7.Thillana-Janjooti-Adi
8.DashAvatara Mangalam

The brothers started off well with the Thodi varnam followed by the lively rendition of the devarnama Jaya Jaya JAnaki in Natai.
Chitravina Ganesh's Mukhari alapana was simply superb. His kalpanaswarams showed his creative caliber.K.N.Shashikiran's deep-throated soulful alapana in Poorvikalyani was extremely appealing. It was elaborate, very moving & evocative. They sang the chitteswarams followed by the swarasahithya for the Poorvikalyani kriti. One notable feature was the ragam itself was introduced while rendering the chitteswarams.Overall a good and enjoyable concert. The taniAvartanams presented by all the accompanying artists was amazing.
The organiser/speaker was so overwhelmed by their vocal performance that he could not stop praising them although the time was running out.He compared them to Alathur Brothers and was reminded of their concerts.

Mr.H.D. Kumara Swamy never turned up !! He only delayed the program. With the result Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar's concert had to be curtialed to few kRuti's.

Ramakriya, Jayaram and mahesh_narayan Sirs,
People got me wrong I guess. I have no problem with people saying Siva SivA. I just wanted to record my reaction for the chief minister's act. I wanted to make it a lil funny by adding that slapping part. But, it turned out bad and people did not like it. I wouldn't have corrected anyone to say nArAyaNA instead of SivA. The problem is that the first name which comes up for me is nArAyaNA like annamayyA would say vEnkatESA or sadguru tyAgarAjasvAmi or SRIrAmadAsa would say SRIrAmA for being the iSTa dEvatA. For me, Sivah is also a name of SRImannArAyaNa as stated by BiSmACAryAr - "sarvah sarvah Sivah stANuh". I would like to add the references made in annamayya keerthana "enta mAtramuna" popularized by Smt MS. I apologise if I have hurt anyone.

On a related note, a joke told to me by my pre-teen daughter:

What do Carnatic musicians sing when it is cold?

Shiver Shiver Shiver ena raada

I attended only Carnatica Bros' concert on Jan 17th & someone told me that H.D.Kumarswamy had inaugurated the program on Jan 16th.I also heard the concert on 16th was pretty good.It was just hearsay.
Anyways,it doesn't matter who inaugurated the program. The program was primarily for Sri R.K.Srikantan.He was present throughout the concert.I enjoyed the concert on Jan 17th.

ksrimech,
None of the gents you addressed took offense! What you said was funny--see, I'm silly enough to savor it, but then, certain SERIOUS minded (not senior minded!) youngster(s) are so intense that humor sounds frivolous to them. Cool, the ready reckoner for 'the best medicine' would chime in now, I hope--to tranquilize the ones who take things too seriously. Ravi, you know what I mean...
