The composer is requesting Godess cAmunDEshwari to protect krishNarAjEndra,a staunch devotee of shiva,{mArAri>mAra::cupid
ari::enemy}the enemy of Cupid.
krishNarAjEndra is the son of the valiant warrior king,cAmarAjEndra.

The composer was patronised by krishNarAja woDeyar.

i have one more question in my mind running:

pallavi: has phrases that praise devi (rAjamAtangi / cAmuNDEshvari / nArAyaNi / gauri)
and says protect me!!!

anupallavi: which means
worship shiva, the chief, (HH) Sri krishnarajendra whose is the son of the fore-runner (HH) chamarejendra

caraNam: has phrases that praise devi(ambikE / mAyE / harikEshajAyE)

i feel the idea of varnam on devi had deviated the concept in its pallavi which says worship shiva oh chief
(this is causing a confusion)

could anybody clarify ?

Does this help? There is absolutely no inconsistency in this varNam. The text in red could be adjectives for kRshNarAjEndra Wodeyar.

pallavi
shrI rAjamAtangi cAmuNDEshvari nArAyaNi rakSincu gauri

anupallavi
dhIrAgrEsharuDau cAmarAjEndra tanaya mArAri pUjAdurandara shrI krSNarAjEndruni

Taking the AP and P together, it says, "Oh SrI rAjamAtangI [1], cAmuNDESvari, nArAyaNi, gauri, please protect (rakshincu) the son (tanaya) of the valiant (dhIra) and best/superior (agrESaruDau), Sri cAmarAjEndra Wodeyar, Sri kRshNarAjEndra (kRshNarAjEndruni) who is the leader/chief/expert (dhurandhara) in the worship (pUjA) of Siva, the enemy (ari) or manmatha (mAra)."

caraNam
ambikE mAyE harikEshajAyE

Oh mother (ambikE), the illusory being (mAyE), the wife (jAyE) of Siva (harikESa)! [2]

[1] pArvati is referred to as mAtangi, in her form as the daughter of matanga (the fisherman)
[2] harikESa is the composer's aMkita - but also symbolizes Siva - the one with coppery (hari) locks (kESa); there are other interpretations of harikESa as well

Your explanation made me understand how pallavi , anupallavi and charanam are consistent.

How do we understand meaning of there 2 words
Could you give any root words or the split words ??

Thank you, Smt. Savitri. I have edited my post accordingly. In Hindi, dhurandhar (धुरन्धर) can also mean expert as well - which is why I used 'proficient' in my first attempt.

Aahaa ! Thank you thank you all
Now it's all clear and I can explain this to my little girl who is learning this varnam.
Another unique feature of this varnam it has only 3 chittaswarams i/o the usual 4.
Wonder why because the last chittaswaram which usually begins with mel Sa in most varnams and runs for around 4-5 tala avarathanams would have been splendid for this one.
