I entered vijay siva concert hall ,15 mins before the start of the concert at the age old most resilent sabha of chennai - Parthasarathy Swami Sabha . They priced the ticket minimum at 100 but they jacked up the canteen rates , different marketing strategy certainly nice one , without dosa and coffee not possible to hear the concert after a bit long working day.
Vijay started on time , this sabha has asymmetrical sound volumes . At some point at the end of second song vijay asked if the volume was okay , Purvangam said Ok Uttarangam said not Ok.
Vijay started with a brief slokham and moved to a lovey asaveri varnam. I just got educated now that his guru DKP used to sing it . Asaveri is one raga that completely destresses you and vijay gave a lovely varnam in asaveri . Volume was a challenge but musical sangathis was not a challenge for my ears.I still moved forward a bit towards poorvangam to mitigate the operational volume risk
Vijay uses sabha officials to distribute pamphlets where songlist is also given ,I am not a fan of that idea. I just looked only at the list it just says raga and composer not the krithi .There was one data point I loved in that there is a RTP in shanmughapriya
Post asaveri , Vijay sang a nice kalyani shyama sastri krithi . Vijay usually does not have that endurance to sing longer cycles of pallavi or swaras or taanam or raga alapana. He consciously overcomes that weakness with his approach to include bit more krithis with right enunciation. Talli ninnu had nice neraval with clincial closure of swaras a kind of typical antha kalathu POochi -Ariyakudi typecast. Dhanyasi flowed next with a lovely alapana. He sings often dhanyasi and as expected with krithi T being written in the notice ,i was only expecting ramabhi rAma manasu , he sang well with just the standalone krithi with alapana.
Vijay pulled consciously bit more vocal muscle in both vasantha alapana , krithi and swaras. Vasantha with seethamma and swaras were really great and i enjoyed it . The next was a short slokham and the push towards higher register comes in one of the finest krithis of the finest composer in the finest ragas . Sriranga pura vihArA was great .I felt with that lovely momentum he could have given a sustained neraval or swaras like few contemporary singers but that did not happen. Still the brindavana saranga was perhaps most well received prior to tukkadas
The alapana of shankarabharanam was intensely classical , he covered with lot of sweep in some parts of alapana i could hum in my head endhukku peddala . I was either expecting endukku peddala or swara raga sudha as it is more lofty with musical aesthetics , but a little less scoped manasu swadheenamai came in. He had to take a little shorter krithi to give bit more lung space to RTP in shanmughapriya was what i thought then.More than swaras I liked his neraval in main shankarabharanam
RTP came in as grand shanmughapriya in only notice paper but in delivery it was too short . May be taaanam and pallavi neraval was pretty expansive . This raga has so much scope in alapana but he just skipped and quickly gave return to violinist . In ragamaliga swaras the raga bhavam of ragas like bilahari ?? , salakhabhairavi? and abheri was just touch and go - not that much when compared to his excellence that he possesses
Tukkadas were all superb .Every number oozed with intense classicism . A decade before i heard one miyan ki malhar pallavi it is almost darbari kAnada . For me the raga is made famous by vani jayaram bole re Pappi. Vijay really started the meera bhajan for a minute or two, i was deaf as the power suddenly got cut. PD krithi in sindhubhairavi and the pallavi followup of bhajare manasa was also well done .
The last ragamaliga , a kind of srirangam oonjal paadal was really superb . Superb lines of thamizh and the raga was mostly neelambari . HIs strength is right there in full swaroopam with that song . An aged lady rasika asked for his poonkuyil and he obliged and he sang that lovely kalki composition which oozes with right emote music intersect.
Violinist Akkarai subhalakshmi was really superb . IN RTP her play was even better than vijay siva. She continues to amaze with right press and right rAga phrases to give consistency , she was and is a great accompanist . Trichy Murali the ghatam artist , I am hearing him twice in two days is a great artist, he works double time for his pay and he gave lot of muscle continuity so that whenever Manoj appeared he had more energy wherever he joined. Manoj played very well and all the accompanists lifted the concert . In tani Murali was really a notch better to produce more intensity.
Barring a very curtailed Pallavi , this is partha sabha they are ok if you extend by another 20 mins is what i think.Vijay faithfully ended at 09 10 pm. Vijay is always my top 3 or 4 for the last few years , he continues with right muse and balance. With few vidwans and vidushis of vijaysiva's calibre , his preparation at home with rehearsed steps of accompanist gives real less error during performance .
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 40 mins.

So sorry, but I wouldn't know! Used the data on the flier to know their names. The mics were so dismal, neither of them were completely audible when they sang.

I was not able to get the 4th word perfectly kanDanalE or kanDanarE. The 5th word was more of UllaguEzhum as ezhu ulagam . The last word was definitely thanai and not thaanE as you stated .

The above song - a vaikunta ekadashi special probably is in kurunji, manirangu, nadanamakriya and sindubhairavi IIRC (he sang this in bangalore 8 years back)
