I came across snippets of this concert on Facebook. A vidwan with amazing voice and range. He presents krithis with clarity of diction. I find his presentations to be a power packed delivery yet the krithis are brimming with bhavam, elegance and aesthetics.

Not very consistent. I heard him at RR Sabha mini hall earlier in the year when he was very good. Heard him recently at the Global Heritage Festival and it was a flop.

I have only heard him couple of times via webcast and both times have been very good experiences for me. I would like to have a chance to hear him live. Perhaps he had an off day at the Global Fest.

I do wonder with the amount of concerts that our vidwans and vidushis present during margazhi - at some point cutchery fatigue is bound to set in.

[I have been lurking on rasikas.org for years although I have become a card-carrying member only recently. I am making bold to post my impressions of this concert (not a review, by any means) since no one else has commented on it in any detail.]

I reached the hall late. As I entered, someone perched on a bench outside the door told me that there was standing room only. Indeed, the small hall was full. I noticed people sitting on the floor in the front. There was a small annexe to the right hand side that was also occupied.

Fortunately, there was room for standing, so I stood while the artist rendered an alapanai of Begada. I found it enjoyable. As already reported, he took up "kaDaikkaN vaithennai alamma" with a very good neraval at "santatam pugazhndu". I don't think he sang swarams.

By that time, I had sat down since some people left. My chair was oriented perpendicular to the stage, so I had to twist to my left to see the artists. It was good exercise for half my abs.

Next, he hummed Madhyamavathi for a few seconds before presenting "naadhupai balikEru" with swarams at "AjAnubhAyua shrI jAnakIpati". There was no neraval.

Midway through the Madhyamavathi, as I leaned back to focus, I discovered why the chair had been oriented in this way. The back was broken. Perhaps the chair was not meant to be used and was intended primarily for ornamentation. Fortunately, the seat and legs were sturdy and I was not in imminent danger of joining the ranks of the seated audience members. This state of affairs kept me on my toes, so to speak, but the music kept up uplifted.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Poorvikalyani that flowed in torrents next. I like this ragam and I was delighted to hear it live. He sang "anandha naTam aaDuvar" with an excellent neraval at "pAdi madi jyOti". The swarams that followed were good but did not reach the heights of the neraval till the final round.

A thani avarthanam followed, but I am not competent to comment on it. The hall was still mostly full.

My chair was holding steady. I had an incipient three-pack.

Next, he sang what sounded like a Meera bhajan (her name appeared in the lyrics) that was new to me. The starting words were "Nandanandana vinumai bhajamana" or something to that effect. I could not identify the ragam but it has a vivadi-ish feel to my ears. The tune was lovely. (Upon the conclusion of the concert, I asked Palghat Ramprasad and he said it was Jog.)

At this point, he said he will sing one or two more. Someone responded "Kandippa" (Definitely). He presented "Krishnaa nee bEganE baarO" (Yamuna kalyani) and "kanaka sabhai tiru naTanam" (Surutti) before the mangalam.

All in all, I am very happy I went to listen to him live. I heard his Parivadini concert on YouTube after reading reviews on rasikas.org (viewtopic.php?f=13&t=31984). I was absolutely floored by his Lalitha in that concert so I made it a point to hear him live during the season.

In the current concert, there were many sequences in the Poorvikalyani that sounded novel to me. His ideas simply keep flowing without a break. He sings effortlessly, without any apparent strain. He is certainly someone whom I will follow eagerly in the future, even if primarily on the web.
