Tamil afficionados would have been extremely pleased with the eclectic song selection and presentation of vidushi S. Sowmya in last night's concert. A performance that did justice to her enormous repertoire and vidwat. The elaborate Devamanohari alapana at 'one down' was a pleasant surprise; one doesn't get to hear this ragam elaborated frequently. 'Elara krishna', a DKJ favorite was prefaced with a delightful Kambhoji alapana. The Sambandhar tevaram that came next was electrifying and one could see TRS Sir in the front row appreciate this very much. But the biggest surprise of the day was the main song... when she started the Bhairavi alapana, I was guessing 'koluvaiunnade' or even 'raksha bettare'. Narayanan's mishra capu tani was brilliant. The khamas javali and Kanada tillana rounded off a very memorable concert.

I associate yArukkuththAn theriyum with none other than Sowmya's guru Dr.Ramanathan. This almost tamizh concert would have pleased me no end. I liked Sowmya's exclusively bhArathi songs concert some time ago on Jaya TV. Her pronounciation (in every language) and nidAnam were evident in this year's mArgazhi utsavam concert as well.

i was in a big dilemma weather to go to this concert or the violin duet that happened a few min away from this venue. Went to the other place. Looks likes a good concert, not that i repent going there, i liked it there, would have liked this concert as well i guess.

One of those rare occasions where The Hindu's take on a concert has agreed with mine! :)
